Leather treatment smelly

One thing missing from BMW Z leather seats, the leather smell.
I tried Cliptone English leather treatment and gives off a reasonable leather smell, bit overpowering at first, but seems to last.

That's strange. The leather smell in my Z4 is quite strong, especially in the summer. I've always presumed it's because of the small cabin area. One of the things I like about the car. Are there different grades/types of leather in different Z4s?

Gliptone is a fine product (although I don't think it smells very much like real leather), and is very suitable for classic cars where the product can actually be absorbed into the leather.

On modern cars with a sealed leather surface, no leather "balms" or "conditioners" will have any effect and will just stay on the surface to attract dirt. So make sure you wipe off the Gliptone completely. At least the smell will remain if that's what you like about the product.

No it doesn't smell like Jag leather or my old Dad!
He worked for years in leather industry so it's a smell i'm very familiar with.
As kids we would fish bits of leather out of his trouser turn ups (remember them).
Yet to find a product that replicates that smell.

Driving today the smell was over powering, needed the windows open.
Modern leather not processed like old leather.

I tried a product few years ago from Buffalo, but that smell went in a day.

Yep, Gliptone's very good and, although I suppose you're right about sealed leathers, it does absorb into the Ivory White Nappa in my E89, as it did into the same type of leather in previous cars.

I use Gliptone's Conditioner to 'float' dirt off the leather, too, which it does well (and I leave a sponge soaked with it under the driver's seat to extend the life of the smell). The last time it went to an AD, the guy who received it said he liked cars with nappa seats because they always smelled so good.

Is it actually leather or one of the excellent substitutes used.....

Just treated buffalo hide probably from India i assume. I think the old leather treatments for curing that give the familiar smell been banned.
I cleaned my beige seats with bleach. Not sure type old leather would survive that.
