Hi Guys

I've just picked up my Z4 Coupe this weekend, it was raining on the way home and i've noticed today when looking in the boot, the bottom carpet (especially the panel that covers the battery) is soaked, i've taken it out to dry out, but i was wondering if this is a common problem? My car's under warranty so if it's the seals i can get them swapped. i've tried searching but couldn't find any topics on this, anyone had this and found a solution?

thanks

yeah it could be, i know they did valet it the day before i picked it up. i'll let it dry out and see how it goes, this time of the year isn't the best weather for drying out carpet's though!

haven't had this problem either check with cleaners and check entry points into the boot to be sure. any break in the rubber seals around the bottom of the window etc?

i'll have a look properly tomorrow after work, hopefully it's just someone stupidly putting a wet carpet back in the boot. I'll take some pics of the car too :)

hi guys, i went down to check out the seals tonight, the seals look perfect, although when i looked down at the battery, this is what i saw:

a puddle of water! I've soaked it up with towels and paper tissue so that's pretty much sorted now, but the carpet to the right of it (the part that goes up the sides) is wet at the bottom (just where the panel covering the battery meets it). I thought it could still be down to some idiot washing the carpet but when i've looked a bit further, i pulled the plastic panel off that covers the light cluster (just like when you want to replace bulbs) and felt near there, and there's a tiny bit of padding next to the light (petrol cap side) which is also soaked, i've felt as much as i can under the carpet and it seems damp. I'm going to ring bmw and get it booked in (as it's under warranty), but does anyone have any suggestions in the mean time?

Was it bought from a BMW dealer or an independent, and what 'warranty' has it got?

Possibly a valet monkey too eager with the pressure washer near to the rear lights, and forced some water past the seals - or they've not had the boot closed properly!

If it stays damp, or gets more damp then it's back to the dealers - although I'm sure trim & seals are not covered under the warranty - so it's up to the dealer.

Never had any dampness issues in my coupé - except for the female passengers :P

yeah it was from bmw, only picked it up on friday!

Get it back to them straight away, if only to make them aware. If you then monitor for a week or so fair enough but gives them less room to wriggle out in my opinion if the problem doesn't go away.

+1

just emailed the garage i got it from showing them that pic. I've asked them if i can bring it back to them tomorrow for them to sort out. I'll see what they say

so i was on my way to take the car to bmw today....

as i was about to set off, the car took 3 attempts to start, then worked fine, 10 miles or so away from bmw, on the motorway the car completely lost all it's power and died! I got it recovered to bmw and i've now got a Corsa as a courtesy car. to say i'm annoyed is an understatement. I've not had the car a week yet!! :(

rubbish. sorry to hear that. hopefully it will be sorted....remember nothing handles quite like a rental car...

yeah i hope they get it sorted, they're looking at it as priority tomorrow. my last car was a 12 year old S2000, never had a problem, this car is a 56 plate with 30k on the clock and it's broke down in less than a week!
