Latest YouTube Review

Tbf at least he's talking from someone who has owned one for a significant period of time...

End of the day though he praises it for all the right things - it's an event and it feels special, even if the e46 m3 is the more forgiving and less spiky chassis and is comfier and easier to live with daily. Imo that's exactly what it is - it's why I own one over an e46 m3, or an e92 m3 for that matter. Handling is more challenging and it feels more rewarding to get right as a result, and it feels special at any speed.

I watched that review a week or so ago and first thought was "if he thinks that one has a firm ride I'd LOVE to see what he'd think of mine"

I saw this come up last week but haven't watched it yet. In his Z3m review he eluded that he preferred the Z3m to the Z4m, the first person I've ever heard say that!
A lot of the cars he reviews are interesting to me but there's something about him that just gets under my skin for some reason.

No way the Z3m is quicker on any kind of British B road (and mine was the S54)... the Z4M is leagues ahead handling wise.

Pretty much what everyone apart from he says, including Russell Knight who I bought mine off, had a racing spec Z3m of his own and specialised in both models.

Have to agree on that.
Saw a later video he just turned 30, made me chuckle. I could swear he was with the old Top Gear generation

I quite like his reviews and enjoyed this one. Interestingly, just as he tends to hark back to the Z3MC, similarly in his review of the 997.2 he harks back to the 996, which can be a little irritating - but hey, its all so subjective and overall this review of the Z4MC is very positive.

+1. I also had a late Z3M with the S54 and it wouldn’t touch my Z4M on any type of road :?

He has created some form of pseudo-Clarkson style of review and it's a bit annoying. Very few reviewers really grasp the appeal of the car when compared to its rivals.....mostly being....it's so rare to see on the road, the engine, the styling, the steering, the blend of everyday useable, the 0% depreciation, the sensible running costs, the options to mod it sensibly, the community (here).

At some point, we should do a mini-meet of MR and MC and focus on creating the ultimate review of the Z4M YouTube video...!

I just like to listen to other peoples opinion of the car and yes, like most reviewers, he can be annoying but at the end of the day at least he is willing to spend the time to put his opinion out there and if nothing else it raises the profile of the car

Although not a video review this is one of my favourites as I just love the way he starts the article:

http://www.donpalmer.co.uk/press/7-days-z4m.html?LMCL=u7SeSN&LMCL=q_Xl8F&LMCL=N8GswD&LMCL=JnUS3_&LMCL=XLCI1I&LMCL=vOhCuR&LMCL=XLCI1I&LMCL=vOhCuR

"I've always had a thing for properly quirky cars – the sort of motors people might say they like, but would never actually buy, own and enjoy… cars exactly like the BMW Z4M Coupe; leftfield hero."

At the end of the day I still can't t think of anything that comes close as a suutable replacement at a similar price point.

Seemed fair enough to me.

Poor steering & Z3M quicker annoyed me a bit

It’s not poor but it’s definitely a bit underwhelming unless you’re jumping out of a 3.0si and into a Z4M. The chubby wheel doesn’t help.

Generally he's not the worst youtuber out there but I do agree he is a bit of a self-styled Clarkson, and it doesn't quite work in my opinion.

Not sure I care what people like him think particularly of the cars though - bought mine because its a right hoot to drive, nothing new really does it for me, and fundamentally there wasn't anything short of a 996 gt3 I'd prefer to own and drive as an entirely weekend/track toy. And I can't afford any gt-pork so there we go

That being said - I'd probably have become quite quickly frustrated with a standard M - I believe the handling leaves quite a lot to be desired in standard guise (although admittedly I've never driven a standard car!) heyho horses for courses - guess it's a good thing I ended up with mine in the end

I had to smile when I read that, as I discovered exactly what you mean when I drove an M! I'm also not a fan of the over-chubby M-Sport steering wheel. :(

Do you guys listen to The Collecting Cars Podcast? Some great chat - enjoyed the Chris Goodwin episode especially.

YES! Bloody fantastic isn't it!? Loved the Dickie Meaden one and the Chris Goodwin one. And the Harry Metcalfe one - 'I promised the boys that if we did well I'd get an F40 pool car' the tiff ones are brilliant too! I guess you could say I'm a fan

I'm not really one for radio or talk shows but I'll happily listen to them talk bobbins about cars :)

The only problem really is that Harris has never liked the Z4M.....

Interesting point Re the Msport chubby wheel 8) after being in so many Zs id got very used to the feel of a chunky wheel being the norm :driving: into a 997 with its by comparison anorexic wheel & instantly i was wondering why i had previously thought bigger was better
The feel & feedback is instantly noticeable :) i gave "Pastry" a testdrive in the 997 on our recent northern outing , within a mile his first two comments were " id need a fatter wheel & more noise if i went for one of these " yet within 5 miles he forgot all about his chunky M wheel
