Last Ever Hullavington Trackday

Sorry for the delay in posting, since getting home last night I've been busy, among other things building our pet rabbits a new home! :D

A really enjoyable day, good to meet you guys, will try to get along to a social meet sometime. Excellent photos too, thank you for sharing.

Hullavington is somewhere I have driven a few times over the past ten years, what a shame this was the last as it's been sold. A bumpy course with plenty of run off making it great for being able to find the limits of a car in relative safety (pothole in middle of straight and dog walkers being the exception!). Superb fun with Tom, plenty of trust following and being followed closely.
I've just ordered a set of Nankang NS2R having witnessed their performance, at times I just couldn't keep up (in no small part due to Toms driving). Understeer was more of a problem today, with plenty of trail braking needed to tuck the front end in. My Contisport 3s are finally down to the wear bars at the rear, I can't really fault them after 6 or 7 trackdays and a continental trip plus a bit of commuting. I let my mate Simon drive my car a couple of times, he spun it twice, thankfully no damage done, think it surprised him :D . My wife and I drove her Panda 100HP for a few laps which had us both giggling.
A good experience driving Toms car at the end of the day, similar in some respects to my car aside from the noise  and that extra grip. None of that 85mph oversteer on the long left hander after the twisty bits!

Had a quick chat to the owner of the 3.0Si who says he visits here occasionally, Happy Birthday sir! :)

Anyway, here is the vid including Tom getting us both in trouble  https://youtu.be/kgqYOIY6kXk

honestly I'm sick of getting stick for running those semi slicks , they are AWESOME..... for the money anyway.... they really are incredible.... I've been advocating these for AGES now they really are the business, be careful with sizes as they run stupidly wide, a 225 is actually 233mm .... yes they aren't going to be upto CUP standard but for the money they are quite literally nuts.

Thanks Beedub, I've ordered them in standard sizes for my 224s and gone for the hardest 180 compound, hoping they fit as my Contis rub the arch liners when reversing with lock!

The last time I was at Hullavington, I had the same conversation with Ed after having the same moment as Tom whilst 'managing understeer' around the hairpin  I kept fishtailing until I stopped in the centre median between the two straights, so I suspect my bollocking was a little more fierce! They probably thought it was the same idiot as last time when they saw a sideways IL MC with black wheels.
It's a real shame to see Hullavington closed to build housing, especially since Keevil went that way already. I wonder if Abingdon is next for the chop?

Massive thank you to Tom for taking me round the track - biggest thrill I've had in a long time. Still smiling from the little "moment" even if the marshalls didn't agree  I can see why it is addictive.
My pleasure. 6'40" in the video above should raise a smile then :) Thanks for the photos.

Excellent, didn't realise you'd done quite so much grass cutting. Thanks for posting the videos Dave.

I would have laughed if I'd have seen that! There was a small crowd of people with cameras loitering in the viewing area by the hairpin with accompanying laughter or oooohhs depending on how cars got around the corner! :D

Hi Dave,

Do you need me to send you the negatives (so to speak?)

Tony

Sold for housing wow what a shame, I haven't been there for a could of years but had many good times at that airfield shaking down cars, damn shame :(
