Laptop Crashed - HELP! Any IT gurus??

I'll chuck it on my external hard drive. It's 22gb so won't fit a DVD

Now where did I put that USB cable

Looks as though you might be on the right track

From one of those it has happened to before, get a portable hard drive when you are up and running again. I have two. I only store software on my laptop. All my files I store on external drive and I back this up periodically to the other larger external drive.

GLWT

P.S. anybody notice the clock on the server is still on summer time?

Glad all ended well, but z4bobs suggestion is a good way to go, however, if you have time and little extra money, get yourself a network drive an then just schedule a regular day/week backup from your main my documents folder (or wherever you put your stuff) to that, also do your backup to external drive for really important stuff.

The regular net drive backup is good because a lot of the time you forget or can't be bothered with doing a manual external copy.

Back it up to a DVD, just in case...

Are you mad? A whole new thread will start with "how can I write to DVD"

He should add a NAS to his network and run incremental and full backups at regular intervals

Andi.
NAS is the way to go ;)

my setup: NAS which is configured for RAID 1 for mirroring...
Syncback SE backs that up to my PC...
SugarSync then backs the Syncback up off site so I can get to all my file anywhere... of course the NAS could also be setup to allow universal access (which it is  )

Glad adamski's back up and running though :)

Sorry I missed most of the thread, just back in. For xp and 98 I think there was the ability to repair Windows using the system disc. I cant remember where the option was but its badly worded and similar in path to the re-install option. Im sure Vista would have kept this..

Looks like you've gone for a re-install anyway?

Bummer :( Looks like a STOP 0x00000078 error if I am reading the picture correctly. Thats usally caused by either a hardware or device driver issue. Cant make out the remaining numbers, but would probably help to shed some light on the problem

It's worked again when I reloaded Vista :)

What's the other error message :?
