So the first meet ste and me organised was a success!

We set off and it was pretty miserable, we made out way along the route and stopped at glenridding just before tackling Kirkston... and jeese what mess that was. All the tributaries had turned into torrents and the road over other side turned into a mini river! Not even down the struggle the easy bit! Which the Zs coped with fine then where it leveled out a bit there was a stretch of pretty deep water that was extreme squeeky bum times especially in the low Zs! But we all got through unscaved. But in all the 25 years ive lived here ive never seen it that bad

After that mishap we went for dinner for a slightly extended period of time to let the weather move on a little. I thought there would be some very unhappy people but everyone was in great spirit and really enjoyed the run! So we decided to press on instead of re-route. We set off for Honister pass and the weather was still pretty miserable but manageable. We got half way to honister and the river had broken its banks on both sides with a wall protecting the road so I was fairly jubious. We hit another piece of water about 6" deep and I decided to stop ask everys opinions then asked a few motorists coming from the other side and they all said the it was fine, we had also blocked the road long enough so we pressed on, got up and over Honister no problem with no more deep water, it leveled and we got some blue skies although the torrents raged either side of the road around Honister but and the rest of the run was great, as we came to the end the sun came out and was a great drive back into Penrith.

Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and have plenty of stories to tell!

Just like to thank everyone that made the effort some a very long way! Was nice to see some new faces and some ive met before

And heres to the next one hopefully with less rain!!!

Pics to follow! :) (although not many it was so wet!!)

Glad to hear it went well Tom - look forward to sampling those roads with you in slightly drier conditions!

I'm still aching from a rock concert on Friday night - getting too old to mosh!!

Was a good day in the end, think its fair to say the day got better as the weather got better. Morning was interesting to say the least tackling Kirkstone with torrential rain and random floodwater. Into the afternoon and once we left the Kings Head after a nice meal the weather brightened up and the driving got better and better over Honister and through Whinlatter.

Always nice to spend time in the Z with fellow owners and enthusiasts, great to see those I met at the national again (Pabs and Andrea, Paul and Steph and Tom) and nice to meet some new people in the form of Adam and his mate, Swiftly (and Mrs Swiftly), Titan, and Hassan who's E89 has shot straight to #1 in my all time favourite E89s, absolutely lovely car, and a top bloke to so hope he starts to post on here more!

Cheers to everyone who came and refused to be beaten by our old friend the British weather, I think its fair to say the day came good in the end and it was worth the trip!
Also cheers to everyone who let me know they couldn't make it, much obliged and made things alot easier.

Will sort out all my pics later. Sadly none of us took as many as we hoped due to the weather, but there's a few good ones 8)

Nice one Ste, are those 20's on the E89??
On the 1st midlands meet we had silver, grey, black and a couple of white cars with Quads lonely yellow (we are a dull bunch aren't we!)

Would like to say another big thanks to Ste and Tom for all their efforts in organising the drive. Next time though could you organise some sun please :poke:

Seriously though it was a great day out and both Lorrain and I enjoyed it, and was well worth the drive down from Edinburgh to meet everyone. We will certainly be back down for another drive next year

Thanks for planning today Ste and Tom. Shame about the weather but at least it picked up eventually.

Looking forward to seeing the pics!

Many thanks to you both
Sorry me n Dot "ducked" out after Ambleside but enough water was enough and with a long journey home from Penrith we opted for the shortcut via Kendal.
We had a nice lunch in Tebay (The Cross Keys) before an equally wet journey over Bowes Moor
Not the best of days but we had a great weekend anyway. Must do it again but in the sunshine!
This was the "P" stop in Glenridding

Well done Ste and Tom!

Despite most folk cancelling events on the Sunday you stuck to your guns and encouraged everyone to turn up...
as we headed across from Newcastle and sloshed our way through standing water I began to have my doubts but what a terrific day we've had.

The rain led to amazing waterfalls and streams cascading down the fells and onto the road - in one case coming through the dry stone wall in an amazing spray onto the road.
We've been through deep water before but nothing like the first 'trough' we had to drive through to continue our journey along Ullswater.
The whole day will remain memorable for the amount of water we were facing on the passes and through the valleys - great stuff.
These views and scenes we'd never had experienced unless we had made the effort and gone ahead with the run - really exciting and impressive stuff.

So although this might not have been what was expected for your first organised run it was a good challenge in a different way and surprisingly fun despite (or because of) the weather.
And you're right - its a run we'll be talking about for a long time.

Steph and I had a brilliant time so thank you both!

Nice to see and meet with other forum members too - some we've met before and some new but all really friendly and all very relaxed despite the challenging conditions. Standards of driving again excellent - terrific roads chosen and we certainly would like to repeat the run in the dry - something to consider for the future perhaps?

Then, to cap it all, when we left you at Penrith, we had a clear run across Hartside with the roof down - the rain stopped and the sun even came out!

Thanks again lads we really did have a great time and let's have another go at this route sometime.

Paul and Steph. :driving:
(Photos are not great but I'll try and post some soon)

Really enjoyed today, yes the weather was as bad as it could be, but a great day was had.
Really do think today has improved my driving though, wettest hooning iv done. Really impressed with the avon zz5 michelin, pilot sports combination, Proving to be very predictable (thankfully).
Thanks to Tom and Ste for organising the route.

In conclusion Z4's doors are very well sealed, I know as water was above the bottom door seal, at one point for several seconds. (Felt like hours)
