Know your G29

[ref]Argyll Andy[/ref], I haven’t done a traffic light race yet, but have overtaken other vehicles and that’s where it seems effortless and disconcerting when you actually see how fast you’re going. :D

The A68 has lots of cameras-It’s so easy to breeze past a lorry- but as you say the speed after passing can be very naughty - it would be my bad luck for that to coincide with a camera cluster!

Oh and my all season tyres are quieter, more comfortable and seem to be more fuel efficient

Which tyre you go for? When I put my G31's 17inch winter on the G29, I also noticed the power output is a bit more delayed and gentle compared to the 19inch PSS summer. Do you notice similar or you haven't had too much experience with the summer?

They’re Continental AllSeasonContacts 255/35 R19’s all round, that means the rears are slightly smaller than the 275/35 R19 summer tyres. This means more torque at the wheel, which should give a better response, so whilst the engine revs higher for the same speed, there’s actually less load on the engine, hence the better fuel economy.

When I tried, the tyre is 225/55 R17 so the diameter should be the same as the 275/35 R19. Maybe it's the rim size too small that give the feeling of delayed power output. Anyway, as I've had full winters on the G31, it's less urgent for me to find a set of winters for the G29.

and you're concentrating on overtaking, not looking at your speedometer, though with a HUD, that's a slightly less convincing argument

When I’m in U.K. I have the beeper set to 80mph.

That only works if you’ve got your hearing aid turned on :poke:

I toyed with the idea of switching off the speed warning on the hud. It flashes when you go over the speed limit which is very annoying.

I figured I’m better off being warned. ;)

Do you know that the car has speed limiter? Once activated, the car won’t exceed the set speed unless you floor it. :tumbleweed:

I think that you must be the only one who has RTFM :D

I use cruise all the time and you can’t do both that and the limiter at the same time, I could set the excess speed chime/display but the only time it would work is when overtaking or when I’m having a little bit of fun :D

that is a bit inconvenience. I also like the cruise control and speed limiter to work at the same time.

Ha, hope I did. I haven't touched the manual even once

Sars, how do you find it so far speed/acceleration wise compared to the Merc?

[ref]Argyll Andy[/ref], I've not pushed it yet, but my gut says that the SL feels quicker of the mark, that's down to gearing, but where the M40i is definitely superior is overtaking, even in comfort it changes down quickly and it's away.

Had an interesting journey from Leicester to Bedford (and back) today.

I set the satnav and set off, but the nav kept on trying to turn me off the M1 (I didn’t!) and my final approach through Bedford took me a very tortuous route through back roads.

On getting back home I looked at into the nav settings and found an option to set ‘shortest’ or ‘quickest’. Mine was set on shortest. I don’t use the nav often, but previously it has given the quickest route, so somehow this has been reset, probably through one of the Idrive software updates.

Just a word of warning, it may be advisable to check your setting!

Good shout about the nav, but I always look at overview so I can see planned journey.

Gonna be using it for my trip to Durham this weekend. Yes I’ll finally get close to that magic 1200 miles.

Just noticed that the rev counter only goes up to 4 when the car is cold. It gradually reveals more rev range as the car warms up! Can’t believe I didn’t notice this before.

Via M1?

Yup. Going to travel up this evening.
Not the best of weekends as it's been misty each day. Spent Saturday walking along the river and it was freezing.

Hope you managed to find the Sardine Tin, the smallest Gin bar in the UK?
