Knocking noise

The safety check in Aus varies by state, but in NSW it ranges between meticulous scrutiny of every aspect of a vehicle to a quick flash of the headlights and a hoot of the horn depending on the garage!

yep , thats what they are avoiding here ,,,I hate to say it but as much as its a pita , its not actually a bad idea and the system does work , although it can be slow to get a test appointment sometimes.

I agree - if car and road safety are improved by annual inspections, the process should be meticulous and free from corruption. Sadly, it’s not in the UK or here.

The situation in Victoria is ridiculous - there a safety check is only required if you’re selling a car. Throughout the remainder of the period of ownership a car, it’s roadworthiness is only assessed if a car is stopped by the police and they issue a defect notice.

A few things to check for knocking noises

Front engine bay braces

Rear diff mounting bolts front one is hard to get to 22mm socket, a couple of extension bars and maybe a UJ.

Rear UJ joint that goes onto the diff input flange needs some grease inside the flange on the prop shaft side.

All the other suspension bushes and bolts as well as the two diagonal braces from the diff to the rear wheel arch area
