Kick me .... Touareg 3.0 TDI??

I don't think I'll ever be able to get rid of my Z4MC .... it's like we're soul mates! :D

However, I do now have to start facing facts that we need a more practical car in the family e.g. estate size, my problem is I'm fussy when it comes to spending my hard earned money on cars and my choices are not completely logically ... they're normally based on engine type/size/performance + whether I just plain LIKE the vehicle/model.

Option 1: Cheap estate/SUV type vehicle + keep Z4MC; Issues with this are that the Estate should be around 10K and I can't think of anything that floats my boat without huge mileage

Option 2: Swap Z4MC for another vehicle; Here I'd use around 25K, looked straight at Cayenne Turbo/Turbo S :D (Monster Power!), shame M5 Touring are not in this price range yet :( ... what else should/could I consider?

Sensible hat on has had me looking at 57/08 plate 3.0 TDI Touaregs, as I like the look/shape and I guess the engine is half sensible :( when sat next to a Cayenne!

Ideas please, as I'm sure the forums collective knowledge has something I haven't considered :)

X5 perhaps next to it? I am running an X5 and the M as well and it is a popular combination.

If you want a single car, the E70 X5 40d FL is a very nice car. Have a look at the xdrivers.co.uk website for pics and info.

i just got a golf, probably not what you want but for a 2nd car its ok

Had heard the Touareg was a bit of a dog - or maybe that was just Top Gear. I know someone who bought one, had it for less than six months before swapping for the new Disco.

As PVR says, the X5... really like the shape of the new one.

Non-BMW, and it is the sensible option, but I've heard nothing but good reports about the Volvo XC90 - they appear to hold their value well too... although not so good if you're in the market.

Thanks PVR, as a single car the X5 doesn't 'do it' for me somehow, not sure how to explain as I'm sure it's a great car and certainly no worse than a Touareg/Cayenne, just my illogical logic at work.

As a single car I'm struggling to look past a Touareg TDI, being entirely sensible ... although ignoring fuel costs (which I always do :D ) a 4.5 Turbo Cayenne sounds like a nice engine to have use of.

As a second car, if I had 15K then it might go here :D, certainly ticks the box on space required for 2 dogs + upcoming kids, perhaps a bit OTT on the engine/power side.

... and keeping my beloved Z4MC :)

Yep XC90 is a shape I click with, would need to test drive one of the 2.5D to get a feel for that engine first. I think price wise they're on a par with the Touareg (used).

Hi,

Like your Golf and I like them in general, although I am looking for a car with big boot space etc, hence an estate/SUV being top of the search list.

We have a LandRover Disco4 as the main family car and I have been really pleased with it. Nothing has broken or fallen off and the new twin turbo diesel engine has plenty of pull.

What about a Mercedes M Class? This is a 280 but they do a 350 and 420 as well.

Older shape models going for less than this:

Taz x, What colour is that Golf? Our "Head of Administration" at work has one in Silver Leaf which is quite an unusual colour when you see it parked next to white and silver cars.

What about the Audi A5 ?

Debadge it ... now!

debadge the golf?

is that not me trying to fake a bigger engine?

Nope - spoils the lines of the car. I even debadged the Polo, looks sooooooo much better at the back without all the rubbish on it.

Z4 beemer: golf is called candy white

pvr: debading, er i will give it some thought, definately my zed looks better for being debadged

I think my neighbours Golf just says TDi at the back, but it does have the Bluemotion badge as well. :?

Hmm, M class is in there with a shout as a replacement/single car ... keep looking at the AMG versions though
