keyed - insurance or what?

A new and malignant scratch in Aldi half an hour ago.

Wing, door, and haunch. Bless. Scraped 1-1.5 mm wide of the top coat off with white showing through the Black Sapphire. Not to the metal. About 2 meters long altogether. I rang the old bill and they said their CCTV wasn't going to be useful.

So what's it going to cost? Do I use insurance or a body shop or chips away?

I am not really upset, the money is going to be hard to part with but I always see keyed cars as a sign of personal success, the perp proves the utter pointlessness of their lives by attacking my clearly superior status. Ha what a loser.

Anyway..
Advice appreciated.

Edit - irony alert - I had called in to town to buy some wax and colour restorer. :)

If you have vandal cover similar to windscreen cover (Direct Line etc) that won't hit your no claims then I say use it. If not then maybe get a quote from a decent indie paintshop first? It's a balance between paying now and paying even more through increased premiums if you'll lose no claims/increased premium.

Tossers (vandals and 90% of insurers!)

Agree with Stuart - unless specifically protected, your NCB and/or premium will take a hit as it is technically a 'fault' claim with no 3rd party. Get a quote from a body shop or two - I think a good one won't have to spray the whole panels ?

I'm amazed you are taking it so well, I'd have been raging. I get your point, but I hope what goes around really does come around and bites the feckers in the ass :x

Sorry to hear that Fin

I'd try the Chips Away guys first, we had a car done at work and they did a great job

If you do call insurance to enquire don't tell them it has happened as they still record a fault claim even if you don't , stupid I know but they do. Just enquire as to if u have that cover as a friend has it

Cheers Bing. I was cross. I saw the guy hanging around and I half considered waiting 'til he had gone. Sallow, weedy, young(25-30), missing teeth, unkempt, loser addict look about him. I had a quick lurk about to see if a kick in the nuts could be administered on principle as there was no chance he had the money to put it right but he had scarpered.

Probably just as well.

courty- Swiftcover are closed for enquiries so that's a luck break. :)

Darren, wotcher, thanks for the commiseration, I will try Chips Away.

there is further humour to be found,
I had moved the car to a safer spot so the doors wouldn't get dinged.
More out of the way isn't necessarily better. :headbang:

What a pita. Really have to believe in karma otherwise things like this would really get to you. Hope it's an inexpensive repair!

i can't believe you've taken it so well. you have a great outlook on life.

i would've been foaming at the mouth

i hope it doesn't sting you too much.

Cheers ben, adam, and mark.

Almost every decent motor I have ever bought has been vandalised. I have learnt two things. One, don't let it upset you, two, get it fixed if it is down to the metal. In this case I am going to get it fixed even though it isn't down to the metal because it is the Mrs's car, a lot of it's appeal is in how pretty it is, and I chose the parking place. I haven't bothered in the past when 2 Saabs, a Merc van several times, and a Passat have been tagged/keyed. All the scrotes prove is their ineffective grasp of pecking order adjustment, and their scrotedom. Upsetting me is their goal and they aren't worth the bother.

The Z4 is one of the more vandalised cars. Different makes see different probabilities of attack. If the people that vandalise identify targets by their 'niceness' which I suspect they do, then they choose to damage things they like. How dim is that?

You should weep for their mindset. :D

Nah.

Sorry to hear the car's been vandalised. Also glad to hear you're not letting the scrote win by causing you more stress.

I had mine keyed in a lovely lazy snake shape from headlight to rear light cluster i took it to bmw paintshop i know the guys there kind of it cost me £600 but its a cracking job nobody can tell which side was done , do feel for you mate its a sickening thing for someone to do .
