Key Upgrade!

Is there a guide anywhere for how to properly upgrade and replace the old diamond key that our cars come stock with? Mine is very warn out and needs a battery anyways which means disassembly so I was thinking to upgrade to a newer key anyways.
This one to be exact: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Modify-Replacement-Flip-Key-for-BMW-E46-E39-Remote-Key-Fob-CAS2-315LP-HU92/232477266140?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

Questions:
Is there a guide somewhere for how to properly transfer the transponder chip from my current key?
Does programming my new key work just the same as if I were adding a new or secondary key?
Will I have to have this key copied and cut to match my current starter key or will it start just fine with a blank blade? (i.e. is the cutting just for doors and trunk access?)

Any help is appreciated folks, thanks!

Sorry I can't answer all your questions!

But if you live in the NorthWest the easiest option would be to contact "Ducklakeview" on here as he cuts and codes keys for less than £100! (He's based in Cheshire, and is also on FB as Zed Shed).

If that isn't convenient he is also doing keys at ZedFest!

I got one from him last year as I didn't have a spare, but I wouldn't fancy trying to take an original apart anyway!

Otherwise there is a firm in East London that do them - BMKeys.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Ah thanks a lot for the suggestions, I'm in the US unfortunately though! (I was just in the UK on holiday though this past week!)

Not done myself but if you’re looking for a DIY fix then they do cut and shut ones. So you just put all the internals from diamond into a newer style fob. Not the one you’ve linked, the other type they used in the middle! This will get you around coding... you’ll Just need to get a new key cut.
