lesson learnt, don't let my dad drive my car, within 3 seconds of "testing" my car he kerbed an alloy!

help! where is the best place to get it repaired, is it worth going to the bmw dealer? My car is only 4 days old, I want it to look brand new again!

all advice will be much appreciated, Thanks and advance,

Ouch I feel for you! Bet your dad won't have ago gain!!

Lepsons seem to have a good review on hear. Never used them myself. All the best hope it's fixed soon.

Hi welcome & oh bolloxxxx ! hard to kick off when its the main man doing the damage ,
For now breathe deep , post some pics of your car for us to enjoy then roll the wheel into your dealer to fettle

Thanks guys, since I picked up my car a few days ago I've had rain and bad weather almost everyday and as you can see from the photos alloys are all wet. I'm going to take some photos with my camera (not my phone) when the weather is nice and I can finally drop the roof! but for now, here is a photo from the first day (taken in the ikea carpark). where I celebrated my new car by having meatballs on the way back from the dealer!

the only reason my dad was allowed to drive was because I had his name on the bmw's 7 day complementary insurance! hindsight is a wonderful thing! he offered to pay for a new wheel...until he found how much they cost. then he offered to cover the cost of the repair :S

my previous car was a mazda 3 (decent spec) but boooring..the z4 is an early 30th birthday present to myself, so hopefully I won't have too much of a melt down!

will repaired alloys look brand new and last as long? I've never had alloys repaired before.

Your old man should swallow and stump up for a new alloy, at least he didn't crash it

There were some brand new single alloys on eBay recently so might be worth checking them out.

Tim.

Much appreciated! I feel a bit better now, I was very upset and tried not to look at it today! and £50 will be money well spent.

I had a look at lepsons website, they're in leeds and miles away from me, so I'll give my local dealer a ring on Monday and just get it done!

thanks again!

"will repaired alloys look brand new and last as long? I've never had alloys repaired before"

In a word, No.. Or atleast, I doubt it..
The factory OE finish, is quite a resillient one and if the so called 'Smart repair', lasts a couple of years, I would be amazed, as that's what the OE finish would of lasted, prior to the damage, at the very minimum..
However, best of luck and enjoy the Z, - it's a massive step up, from a Mazda 3...

It'll be fine with a refurb, you'll never know.
I let the wife take mine to work a few weeks ago and she got smacked up the arse end by someone (not her fault at all, but all fixed now) its hard to be cross with family over an accident! :x

I had a repair done on a wheel with similar damage to yours by a mobile specialist, great job for £35. Impossible to spot afterwards.

Do yourself a favour and don't let a mobile van do the job!

I had a van do one of my wheels when a mobile tyre fitter damaged a rim (scraped the paint on my old E85) they never took the tyre off the rim, just broke the bead and put masking tape between the tyre and the rim, rubbed it down and painted it in the damaged area. it looked fine, but the proof of the pudding was that it degraded and fell off a year or so after.

full re-furbe is the only way to go in my opinion if you want it to look like new.

These guys are very good

Thanks for the advice, I have already got 2 quotes for repair:

These guys have offered to do the whole wheel, they showed me a swatch of colours and have promised a perfect match for £40:

My local dealer emailed back by saying this:

"Looking at the images on the wheels , to repair and paint the outer edges I feel we are looking at £50 / wheel inc vat ( subject to seeing them in the flesh)."

Now the question is if I should go for the local garage and get the whole wheel done, or to the dealer for repair and paint of only the edges. (both almost the same price). I feel the dealer would do a better job as they'll have the perfect paint match, but they only do the outer edges... any suggestions?
thanks.

dealer. you can sort things out easier if they go wrong...

I recall you can get insurance from bmw dealers for this. ideal if you live in a house where on street parking is necessary. or you let your missus / dad drive it...!

Yes you can get alloy insurance but sadly you can only do this on a brand new car. My car is a few days old now. I have offroad parking and I'm driving the z4 like a saint just now... until I'm more comfortable with the massive bonnet and wide ar5e! so finger crossed I won't have too many mishaps.

Beautiful looking car you have there! look forward to the "proper" pics. I bet you camera get a good hammering over the next month!

Thanks :) I was like a kid at christmas...well until it got kerbed. but i'll get it fixed next week, wash it and then the photos :) I think i'll go to the dealer, as mentioned earlier if it goes wrong will be easier to chase.
