Just wrote off my p&j

I hit diesel on a roundabout. Luckily for me an off duty police officer was following and helped verify that I wasn't driving like a tool. I was the at least the 3rd car in an accident at that point judging by debris and car parts at the side of the road :o

We can all get caught out. Just sucks when it happens :(

Very sorry this happened to you, you must feel s**t. The important thing is that you are ok. Could have been worse off for you in a lesser car.

Just wondering in regards to insurance, just looking at my policy here in Ireland, says they own the car once write off is confirmed, how does this effect things like seats etc?
 
wow really feel for you!! its not nice writing a car off! least you ok! lesson learned!!
i learnt my lesson back in 2008 with a 1.8 Corsa SRi!!

No idea if diesel was involved, I just know the car performed out of character. I thought it was traction turned off (due to sensor 2 in the drivers front wheel which monitors traction, subsequently disables traction control if it's not responding to the ecu) and me being over keen/not familiar with car when it's in it's "raw" form. No doubt it was my fault, but didn't feel anywhere close to my usual limits.

Would make sense for the insurance company to own the vehicle after write off, I presume they try and minimise their exposure by selling it to the scrap yard. Otherwise I'd do the scrap mans job and be quids in.

Oh well, onwards and upwards. Off to autotrader.com for the thrill of car hunting :)

I know that sick feeling, gutted for you but it's not the end of the world mate, could have been worse, but I doubt you're thinking like that at the moment. I've just had a race bike restored to better than new, 6 laps of donington to run it in, first flying lap tipped into redgate and before I know it I'm on my arse and the bike sliding into the gravel, m'mm "that sick feeling ".

thankfully we where, apart from the old wiplash, luckyly it was only my vehicle involved!! the Corsa saved our life tbh, bounced down a country lane at 60mph hitting every wall lol
 
Z8cookie recovered some bits from his car when he wrote it off, and now has them fitted to his new one. I'd ask him how he sorted it... Though hopefully you won't need to.

As said, can happen to anyone so don't be ashamed - that's silly :roll:

I feel for you though mate, gut-wrenching feeling - I hope it all works out.
 
Just got back from work late to find this. Can't say much more than everyone else already has. Glad you're OK and hopefully the insurance co will pay up promptly with not too much fannying around over value.

hey skippy, it's with garrets bodywork in canvey. I phoned them today, they said they think it'll be a write off, but can't officially say because the quotes with the insurance to decide.

Been looking around for a replacement. Tough to find one with the same spec for what I paid. Think I want to stick with a zed as there's nothing (IMO) that compares.

It does seem like a difficult repair though looking at the gap on the door. Better off been written off tbh.

hey spearman - don't forget that the insurance will offer you lowest book. you might want to start hunting round at dealers (both BMW and independent) for an equivalent car (or as close as) in a similar condition with similar miles. this will give you a bargaining chip with the insurance when it comes to negotiating with them over the payout. They offer you x, you tell them that to replace your car with a comparable model will cost you y and if you can demonstrate it, they should increase their offer. unless their first offer is outstanding, reject it.

So sorry mate, least no one was hurt..... If it is a write off look on the positive side... Could go for a newer Z, or even an M :evil:
 
+1 on not accepting their first offer - another forumite managed to show them similar cars for sale and increased their payout by £1k!!

I'm in a similar position with my bike (bloody Audi drivers) - which has been scrapped and waiting for my payout, but I think my accident management company have used a friendly valuer and got me a good price :)
 
Confirmed as a write off. I'm going down to the garage on Monday to collect "personal belongings". So, what shall I take from the car?

Dice 100
Dice dsp adapter
BMW rubber matts
Clear side repeaters

Any thing else?
