I took it to a local body shop guy with a good reputation who removed the mirror and welded it with some kind of epoxy resin or chemical metal.
He charged me 50 pounds and it worked fine for another 10 months until the car was sold.
If you haven't already ruled a repair out I would try a body shop.

I did wonder if this could be done but no idea if any body shop in Halifax will do it

The non-electrically-folding ones are much cheaper IIRC (about £150), compared to the folding ones (about £400) last time I looked.

Do you need the glass as well? If so that's going to add a bit.

You could try bmminiparts.co.uk to see if you can at least save a bit from the dealer prices.

Here's a N/S one on ebay.

There are a few others, but I'd assume the ones on ebay are non-electrically-folding unless told otherwise.

Are all the connectors for folding and non folding the same?

Is that just the hinge and outer casing thats broken?

You could prob get a standard non electric one in any colour and swap the bits over.... And then spray it with a rattle can?

yeah its just the hinge, the rest looks fine, been to a garage this morning who said it cant be welded as its will be, and i quote "pig metal" im looking to just get a non folding electric one and just use that until i can source one. it looks like the folding part is all contained within the mirror itself
 
ive just called and spoke with sopers and they have confirmed he found 2 for my car, one is £199.06+vat and the other is £418.01+VAT. he is going to find out what the difference is between the two but he thinks its because one as a gloss baseplate?
 
The cheaper will be the manual. iirc the more expensive sounds about the right price for a folding. I had to replace my manual one after it got knocked off.

The bolts to hold it on are behind the tweater. Door card off to get to the connector. Before you mount the wing mirror wind the bolts into the mounting plate as it isn't pre threaded so you need to cut it with the bolts and it's easier done off rather than on.

i imagined that the cheaper one would be a non folding one however he said he thought it was because one had a painted base plate? assume the cheaper one would still be electric heated through? i had the tweeter off yesterday in an attempt to undo the connector but as you said found that it was behind the door card. i didn't feel up to removing the door card as i've never done it before. i still need to find out if the connector for the wiring is different for the folding and non electric folding? i cant imagine that it is?

The gloss one is for M's and the matt/satin one is for non-Ms.

haha M tax! if the £199 is an auto folding electric one i might have to get it and then arrange to have it painted
 
well just had confirmation from Sopers that it would be £355.31 to replace for one in primer with no glass

tell me about it that includes the forum discount as well, would have been £418 without the discount! for a 10 year old car! had a quote for a new headlight a few months ago £740 not including VAT
 
Hmm, im now thinking about stripping the mirror down and getting some of this on it?

Dont think that will be strong enough, especially with the pressure applied opening and closing... maybe easier trying to get it welded first, and if that fails then fork out the money.
