omg what on earth have i brought.... i just though id connect it and they all port over to my machine??? and my macbooks card reader looks massive compared to the card from my camera??? 
the camera is firmly ON but theirs nothing happening??? their was a disc as well so let me check to see if it was a driver....

You've bought a fantastic camera, Nikons are brilliant cameras, love mine (and have had Pentax and Canons before I went digital with the DX40), pictures are fantastic (weakest point being the fleshy part that presses the shutter :roll: )Beedub said:

The only reason I dipped into this thread was that I'm considering getting a new camera, as my oldest daughter is getting married on Saturday.
I have a semi decent Point and shoot and a Canon 350d that is nearly 10 years old now. Was looking at the Canon 600d as I could use my Sigma telephoto with it and just buy the body. Having seen the reviews of the Nikon D3200 I am swaying towards it mainly due to the "Guide Mode" as I'd be able to get SWMBO to use it as well.
Still looking at reviews and my finances before deciding.

Have a D90 myself. Would recommend using A mode as the next step up from full automatic. This allows you to alter the aperture (f value) manually and the camera will select the best shutter speed for your ISO setting and lighting.
E.g. Low f number when you are taking portraits (blurred background to keep focus on subject) = fast shutter and high f number = slow shutter (use your tripod) for landscapes when you want the entire scene in focus.
Get the "dummies" guide or similar for your camera then just experiment best way to learn IMO.

The guide mode isn't what I thought it was..... It only allows you to scroll through your photos????
On the lens ther is a button mark VR on/off.... What is that and how does it effect my photos??
Ok so I took some photos and ermm they look like the ones I took with my 8mp Sony point n squirt, I was kinda expecting tomscott/dubsed type look to the photos....
The video mode is really cool however with the quick record button.

VR is vibration reduction. It will try and counteract any shaking of your hands. What that means in a practical sense is that you, or the camera can select a slower shutter speed without getting a blurred photo and still getting the correct exposure.

We have a couple of hours between the ceremony and the meal in an open courtyard so we've been panicking for a few weeks. Let's hope the weather peeps get it right for a change.
And I've just ordered the Nikon D3200 with a 18-105 VR lens. Gonna order a flash as well. Should be here on Wednesday which will give me a couple of days to play before the big day.

Re guide mode i wasnt overly impressed by it??? the camera is however fabulous, really pleased with it, its even quite light and easy to handle....
Good pics come from so much more than the camera. Sorry I never answered the VR bit, been away at Disneyland Paris. Full auto fires the flash even in bright light sometimes and really spoils the shots. Some pics just come out good, take lots and delete lots!!

One thing on VR mode (or Image Stabilisation on a Canon) is DON'T use it if the camera is on a tripod, it will actually introduce noise into your pictures (noise = grainy looking)

Defo agree with that advice I'd like to get away from auto as you are 100% right it flashes in conditions it REALLY shouldn't I actually called Jessops up about it thinking ther was an issue.

I agree......they could of done a lot more with the guide mode.
I got mine with the 18-105, 35mm f1.8 for low light work and the SB-700 flash.
It 's all gonna get a good workout at my daughters wedding today.
Really impressed with the camera and the 18-105 seeing as it's just a kit lens.
