Just Had an Accident... :( - She's Fixed :)

JonW, Will PM you now!

mmm-five, I hope you're right. I have limited knowledge about these sort of parts, so freaked out when I got out and saw the wheel.

Hope you get it soted bud, but could have been worse :)

And if you do get the Z4M rear axle then post up how it went, as iirc you have to shorten the prop shaft (not the end of the world). Would be much better though

Ahh Peddy what a sh*t, but in this weather unfortunatly it happens, hope you can get it sorted OK.

Sorrt to hear you've damaged your pride and joy, but as others have said, could've been worse. You're ok and the car sounds not that badly damaged. Best to get it properly checked by a body shop to make sure nothing else is out of line.

Sorry to perhaps be the bearer of bad news mate, but on most cars if an airbag pops, the bag itself is the very least of the cost! You usually have to replace a whole control unit :(

So what other bits are there exactly? I can't find the parts on realoem.

Soory Peddy, hope this doesnt cost to much to sort out :( Its uprising how hidden costs come out of the woodwork with small issues like this.

Get together a list of costs and work out if an insurance job is a better optiomn. Wont be fun to be without a car at the mo though

So sorry to hear this... This weather really is having its toll; i've already had a couple of friends who have had minor shunts.... and its only the start of winter

You most likely have only damaged the shock + mounting - which depending on your excess may not be worth going through the insurance... especially as the rear is pretty easy to DIY.

You could prob pick up a new single M wheel on eBay/ breakers.

As for the airbag

And if you ever want to get rid of that airbag light it will requrie a vist to a stealer to remove.

A little update... The mechanic has had a look and so far it looks like a broken lower wishbone (£86 from Joe @ Soper).

Airbag control Unit is £268 from Joe, but hoping to find one from the breakers for cheaper.

Brilliant Peddy. So fingers crossed you're not looking at too large a bill then! You'll be back on the road in no time

That sounds more like it

Thats not so bad.... cant believe the airbag even went off at that speed...

Would also require a geometry check after.

Good luck with the repair.

Peddy, Sorry to hear about the wreck, glad you are well, and it looks like the damage will be repairable.
I had a similar spin out back in the day...with my soon to be in-laws VW Beetle, on a slippery mountain road in Vermont. Spun around a couple of times and bashed the right rear wheek into a boulder on the side of the road. The wheel was facing out a little more like 90 degrees. And as well all know, VW Beetles are rear engine.... Well, cracked engine block - car was totaled. Making that phone call was fun....
So, could have been worse. Best of luck sorting it out.

TBH I'm glad it's relatively light damage.

I'm probably looking at

£86 wishbone
£268 airbag control unit
£55 airbag
£60 re-code airbag
£100 geo setup
£50(?) re-stitch the leather on the door card
£150 labour
£100 alloy

total: £869

Hopefully if I find a control unit from a breaker it'll bring the total a little lower.
