Just Had an Accident... :( - She's Fixed :)

Basically lost control of the car. Car spun and the rear driver's side hit the kurb.

Wheels at about a 45 deg angle and side airbag's out, but that's it... no body panal damage etc. oh the wheel is "kurbed" too.... big chunk is missing.

So axle's bent... anything else you guys can think of?

I've seen that Z4M on ebay being stripped, so left a msg to see if the guy still has the rear axle (might as well get an LSD fitted too then lol).

How much do you think the rear axle with LSD will cost 2nd hand?

Parts i'm going to need:

* Rear Axle
* Rear Driver's side wheel
* Side airbag
* door car (unless I can stitch it back up??)

Anything else??

Sorry to hear about this Peddy.

Car will get fixed main thing is you are fine and nobody else was involved.

Sorry to hear this Peddy :thumbsdown:

The axle isn't a bolt-in jobbie though, bit more to it unfortunately.

What speed?

Sorry mate it's a gut renching experience.

If not already done I would seriously suggest that you get the car properly assessed before looking to buy parts like a full axel set-up (which very rarely needs changing as a result of a smash) but suspension components will need changing and the chasis/mounts will need to be measured on a jig. It may not be as bad as you think in terms of damaged parts.

Gutted for ya mate :-(

If ya fully comp though, id claim and get her sorted properly if its done quite a bit of damage, then sell her and get another, its never the same after you have done a bit of damage, mentally that is and sometimes physically!
There are alot of good Z4's out there atm!
I would find out how much your insurance would go up if you made a claim...

Good luck anyway bud.

Thanks guys.... just spoke to my local mechanic and explained what happened... he reckons the axel will be ok and will be just suspension, etc so hope you're right Ewazix. He'll come over tomorrow to take a look.

Wondermike, any ideas what needs to be done (I emailed Curtis who did the swap)? When I spun... At most 20mph.

Sorry to here that mate hope you get it sorted without to much cost then you'll be back on the road looking forward to spring time.

Had a head on in my Calibra years back was gutted to say the least new bonnet headlight front bumper and few other bits good bodyshop sorted her and she looked better than before winning me my first of two trophies at Vauxhall shows and many more years happy driving ending with selling her for double book price so there is light at the end of the tunnel mate

Gutted for you Peddy. Hope you get it sorted relatively quickly and cheaply. B*stard winter weather has a lot to answer for.

sorry to hear that bud. hopefully it will get sorted soon

could of been worse, some cnut bumped my astra coupe and drove off at the gym today...... it now needs a new front bumper :x

Sorry to hear that too. Was it black ice or just wet road? I couldn't believe the side impact at 20mph could bent the wheel 45 deg. Going to claim insurance?

:(

Hope it's a quick fix for you and back on the road. Many moons ago I spun* my folk's Rover 418 (I know...) and ended up with the rear wheel at a 45deg angle, same as what you describe. IIRC it was only suspension (and wallet) damage and the axle was fine.

*well, a bit more than that: NSL dual carriageway, shallow left curve followed by shallow right curve, typical young male's overly optimisic entry speed in sleety conditions, lift-off oversteer to the right, I catch it and over-correct, back end swings to the left, catch it and over-correct again back to the right, over-correct once more and back end goes all the way round to the left. Absolutely sh*t myself. Damage to suspension was from wheel digging into the grass verge, lucky not to take out some signs and lamposts...

Gutted for you mate,Id get a good inspection done just to be on the safe side! hope its not to costly :(

I'm guessing curtis only swapped the actual diff, as wondermike says the Z4M axle is completely different as is the suspension setup so not a straight swap.

He got it fitted at Simpson Motorsport, sorry Peddy I don't know the technicalities of it, just that it isn't easy.

Very sorry to hear that Peddy, when you care so much for your car it's really gutting.

Fingers crossed for a quick and not-to-costly fix.

Gutted for you Peddy but at the end of the day it's only a car and the main thing is your OK.

The instant reaction is to fix it yourself when probably an insurance claim would be easiest but if for whatever reason you can't claim your insurance I had recent dealings with a decent bloke who had a full back end from an Mcoupe for sale (£500). He may still have it PM me for details.

If the wheel's angle is that far off from such a light impact, then it's probably 'only' the 'sacrificial' lower wishbone (about £100) and/or the upper wishbone (about £200) or at worst both wishbones.
