Sorry for the lack of proper photos and updates... been out enjoying driving the M a little too much
Here's my thoughts so far compared to my old zed....
I'm perplexed at how different it drives and rides compared to my 2003 3.0 on runflats; the Z4M (angry edition) is a far nicer ride in terms of grip, comfort and compliance on poor surfaces, its much less jarring. I'm not sure how much comes from the proper tyres but if thats all that causes it then BMW committed a sin in penalising all their normal Z4's with them.
As for build quality, having been in Lucy's 3.0si Coupe I was a little disappointed how rattly and flimsy my old Z4 felt in comparison afterwards, I put this down to it being a roadster and an early one at that! It seems the facelifted cars or M's had a big improvement in quality, nothing rattles in the Z4MR - its very noticable with the doors and dashboard, does additional body strengthening play a part here along with some changes in suspension and sound insulation?
My old 3.0 briefly had the BMW strut brace, the Z4MR feels great without it; is it a good idea to refit this? Whilst it tightened up my old car a bit it also seemed to skip on bumps and understeer a bit more after it was fitted...
Hydraulic steering - god its sublime after 3 years of knumb electric steering - good weight and feedback although I'm having to learn how to take bends again and all my lines are wrong on my favourite roads! Was the Z4 electric steering variable rate?
The different colour backlighting and subtle M styling on the clocks and interior are nice, I found out the gear stick glows last night which is a nice touch and the carbon leather trim gives the cabin a nice finish. Similarly the short shift and gearbox are much nicer to usewith and the box is a lot smoother when swapping cogs, no idea if the CDV is there or not.
Brakes... very sensitive and sharp and seem quite a lot more powerful - its taking some adjustment to avoid stopping short of intersections

Pads seem quite dusty and found lots of brake dust behind the wheels on the bodywork.
With regards to engine and performance, on paper I did not expect a massive difference. That engine with that transmission and diff is a potent combination and really fires the small car down the road like a swarm of angry bees in a bucket. The cars character is summarised with its Intoxicating and vulgar exhaust note; its particularly rude between 2-4k in 2nd gear when pressing on and I cannot help but grin at any opportunity to open it up should a tunnel or underpass present itself - no need for a sound generator here!

The downside, its a little thirsty and I am seeing 23.3mpg, ~4/5 mpg less than the 3.0 M54 but oh so worth it!
My only regret.... not getting one sooner - lifes too short!
