Just another day! *FAULT RETURNS FINAL UPDATE*

Well I spoke to soon, so wasn't sure if I should post more bad news especially about my zed, but the flipping warning light came back on again this morning.

I hadn't really noticed any significant rough idling this time which was strange and the zed has run and sounded fantastic, I think I was over confident it was actually fixed. However on my drive home tonight I noticed a slight uneven idling and a fluttering of the rev counter whilst sitting in the traffic. I am not sure how many times the computer records or monitors the fault before it brings the engine light on.

Well I have rang the dealer up and broke the news to the service manager, I could tell in the pause and tone of the guys voice that I was about as welcome as a foreskin and a plate of bacon buttys at a Bar Mitzvah.

So whilst the zeds in on Thursday getting an quote to repair the accident damage the mechanic, (loose term used) will run another diagnostic test to see what the fault code is. No doubt will be fired back at BMW again to come up with a solution to try.

I am not a religious person and am seriously trying to stay positive, but for Christ's sake when will I get a frigging break

So sorry mate-i am lost for words :(

I know in the past you have been where I am at right now with your zed, and you survived, so I take solace in that fact Andy. I will survive it to enjoy the zed

I am gutted for you Mr Swiftly, thought it was all sorted. Christ an accident and the fault returning again is real shite mate :headbang:

I salute you as I would have jumped ship long ago if I had been you. You've stayed with it so got to see it to the end, really hope its not that long and painful for you.

Had the zed in the dealers this afternoon to run yet more tests since the yellow engine management light has returned yet again. I was so sure it was fixed as the engine has been running really well with no real noticeable idling issues, so was real shock when the warning light came back on yet again.

This time they have said the Exhaust Manifold has a hairline crack which is the cause of it tripping the warning light. :headbang:

They said they had looked at the manifold twice before, but that it was extremely rare for a 3.0si to suffer from a cracked manifold as they are pretty bullet proof, however they had been advised by BMW from the tests they were told to run to change the other parts first. Only consolation for me is that all this work is covered under AUC thank God.

Since the dealer will also be repairing my rear end accident damage I suffered earlier this week, I hope to get both jobs done at the same time which hopefully will be in the next three weeks :D

To recap my journey so far, the parts that have been changed to date under AUC are

Rocker Cover Gasket
Inlet Manifold Gasket
Fuel Pump
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Fuel Pressure Sensor
Fuel Filter
Mass Air Flow Meter
And finally the Exhaust Manifold

I know I have said it so many frigging times before, but I really, really do hope that after over 6 months of frustration and absolute roller coaster of a journey, that this will finally be the fault resolved. I know it is easy to knock dealers, but I have to say that it has been a hell of a journey for the dealer as well and I can't praise them enough for their excellent customer service and support that has been offered to me, first class :D

Bloody hell Swiftly, hope that's the end of the journey and pleased for ya that they have found the cause.

That's an impressive list of parts fitted though, so you shouldn't have any issues with the zed misfiring in the future

Just think, when it is fixed, how many new parts you have, that won't need changing for a very long time. :D

Exactly, there has to be a positive gain from all this :)

Great it is finally fixed

Out of interest, do you know how much £ all that adds up to ?

Haven't got a clue once they replace the Exhaust Manifold what the final cost will come in at Bing. I will ask the dealer out of curiosity, however I would think it has to be at least a good few grand minimum once labour has been factored in.

I was shocked when they told me that the manifold had a hairline crack, can't be many 3.0's which have suffered this.

Swiftly,

I hope all is well?

Did the hairline crack solve your problem as I have an intermittent engine light. If I clear the code and take it for a spin, I get a sudden increase in revs and then the code (P0012) logs and the engine light appears. There is evidence of hard starting, revs fluttering and the car is easier to stall under normal conditions.

Do you know where the crack was on the inlet manifold?

Thanks

Mine threw up a totally different error code 'P0171 'system too lean bank 1', don't know where the crack was except the dealer at the time changed it under warranty along with various other parts.

Hope you get yours sorted soon

Thanks Swiftly! :)

I hope so soon, although it has been a while already.
