Jordanian Pilot

Some idiot had posted on Facebook the killing of the Jordanian Pilot by ISIS, why they would want to I do not know, it was one of those videos where its running as your scrolling down the page on your phone, I've changed my Facebook settings now to disable auto video play. Of course I saw most of the video but stopped watching it after a while. All I can say that poor guy and truly awful. I hope something is done soon to eradicate these people and quickly.

Tim.

Im not on Facebook. Came off it a few years after i finished University in 2007 as it was just getting full of rubbish and advertising.

I think my friends think i am weird for not being on it, as I'm 28, and most people of my age seem to be on it!

I don't think ISIS will disappear for a long time, and if they do, another group will pop up with a different name in there place.

There are some things it is difficult to unsee.

I have been careful not to catch this one. Selfish maybe but I can't do anything and I don't have a solution but I am happy to accept that we should try a few things to see how they work out. Good luck to the policy wonks.

Facebook does nothing for me. I don't want lots of friends.

I do have a Facebook account, but never use it. Never really understood why anyone would be Interested in what I do. I'm certainly not interested in the minute by minute activities of others.

As for ISIS videos, I saw some stills showing graphic details of beheadings. I really wish I hadn't, I haven't slept well since. Barbaric.

Fortunately I have not seen the burning video and have managed to avoid most of the beheading example as also - but the auto play thing on Facebook could catch you out - especially as it causes your device to freeze momentarily when it's in auto play

ISIS is a real problem - it appears it's a banner under which all extremists can gather and associate - I recon like most of us the authorities are scratching their heads in frustration trying to work out a plan over how best to deal with them - I think anything is going to be a very blunt instrument with the potential for innocent casualties

Can't see America / UK sitting in the side lines for long on this though

I'm glad Jordan acted swiftly and hung the two crims (sorry) but it's the only language these idiots understand

Normal Muslims must be well sick of idiots hijacking their religion and using it as an excuse for violence

I've unfortunately seen the video.

The most horrible thing was the editing - something like a sci-fi or action movie, a computer game of sorts. An average teenager has seen similar things, but computer-rendered. That blurred boundary of insensitivity, the voyeuristic aesthetic of a well-produced game or film, was the greatest horror of all.

So I've decided to respond in kind.

Like others, I do not have a FB account. Also like others, I hope IS is wiped out very soon, no place for that organisation (if it is one) in todays world.

I feel for the families of anyone who falls into their hands.

I've not watched any of the videos nor seen any on Facebook either. You must have taken an age to scroll down your news feed if you managed to see most of it.

Just delete which ever idiot posted it.

I find FB quite useful to me as I have relatives in Australia so a good way of keeping in regular touch plus there's also some of the car clubs I'm involved with on there. You can through your account settings disable video auto runs. The video was a reminder to trawl some of the friends whom I don't really contact anymore and delete them. Unfortunately the video was tagged to one of these.

Tim.

And turn off auto play..

I have seen it... It is truly horrendous..

I don't understand it though, there are many questionable things in its content.

Not a social media person but nice to see the Jordainians (as a Muslim country) kicking some IS ass, rather than cowering in the face of their primeval savagery.
I know I'll take some flak on here from the 'turn the other cheek' bunch, but it's about time someone sent a proper message to IS, rather than it being us that is sent the messages!

it's posted because it's "news".

you Guy's in the UK are still to blind and overpoliticly correct to see the enemy isn't at the gates any more, it walks among us. i ain't say'in all muslims are bad or terorists, but the good they don't seem to speak out. they don't recocnize that their culture/believe needs enlightment like the christian faith had ( although Al-sisi of egypt did !! thank god the military is back in power there ). and don't start about equel oportinity and so on  as i'm dutch everybody gets an equel chance here, some verry high educated muslims have joined ISIS and not because they had bad chances in life...

and jordan kicking IS ass ? whit what ? if IS didn't burn their pilot, but instead attacked jordan, i think IS would do the Ass kicking.... only the kurds are kicking ass because they fight for a cause, the welbeing of their people. the rest of the middle eastern arab countries are no real countries, but just line's drawn in the sand by the british and French back in the days. and so the tribes can turn on eachother in the blink of an eye.

I don't think the British need a lesson anout standing up to totalitarianism/extremism from any other country in the world really. Where others talked about it, Britain did it. i have no doubt we will do again if it needs it.

That time isn't here yet.

oh yes Neville Chamberlain was such a guy ? he did stand up : peace in our time....

only 1 guy with soem g*ts in the UK is Nigile Farage, but even he is called "racist".

Why didn't british newspapers publish the Charly Hebdo Frontpage/Cartoon like in the rest of europe, oh yes because they stood up against extremism....
the BBC banned until recently the footage of pictures/drawings of the prophet muhammed.

no we dutch ain't a lott beter than the british, but here there is a debate on integration and multicultirual society. try to do that in the UK, don't think it's more than "no news on the westernfront"

Before I retired in October last year I spent the last 5 years of my career dealing with Intelligence. I spoke with members of the Pakistani, Iraqi, & more recently the Somalian communities, who were willing to engage & would be of interest to the NE CTU.
For obvious reasons I will not elaborate on the analysis of my then colleagues - suffice to say it was chilling.

I attach much more credibility & veracity to their work rather than the mumblings of people at the Students Union Bar, written pages of the Guardian Newspaper, or the air waves of BBC Radio 4/5 Live.

I'm not a liberal. Anyone who knows me properly knows I am the exact opposite.

But this is an election year. That's why the timing isn't right. There is no appetite for "boots on the ground" amongst the electorate at large. We also frankly, need more of what happened to the Jordanian pilot or similar to galvanise the Middle Eastern countries into doing what they should've done all along and taken care of their own business. Whilst it was our hostages being beheaded they didn't give a s**t what was going on in their own back yard.

ISIL will be wiped out very quickly when it suits us. That might involve some unpalatable stuff (like backing Assad for example) but they will be snuffed out when the time is right.

Remember as well you keep your friends close and your enemies closer still.

Whether someone is a Liberal or not is of no consequence, neither is the timing of an increased military presence & subsequent actions .

What worries me is the those in the West who think these groups are suddenly put down their Kalashnikov's, dismantle their IED'S and start growing their own veg, & recycling their cardboard, whilst young female students are able to go to school & learn.

What is lost on these deluded people is as well as the groups religious ideology, there is the criminal aspect, supplying firearms, the cultivation & supply, world wide, of controlled drugs, Money Laundering, Land Grabbing, counterfeit goods.

I only mention the liberal bit because it was something you first brought up HB.

Well they won't be the first set of "freedom fighters" to be interested in organised crime will they? Nor the last!

Personally i think we should let the region have a go at fixing this mess - i'm absolutely against the idea of risking our soldiers lives against these nutters.

The region is totally messed up - checkout the Vice youtube channel for some great journalism in Syria with the kurds etc, and the footage recorded by the german journalist interviewing ISIS guys. Nothing we do will help there, other than aiding the locals to fix their s**t.

As much as i dislike Israel for a lot of the treatment of gaza/palestine/etc, i can't help but feel a tad concerned for them seeing all that happen on their borders. Though arguably i'd be keen to see the full force of an israeli response to ISIS when ISIS do finally put Israel in their sights...

That was 70 odd years ago mate. That s**t doesn't happen anymore. Our government are a bunch of cowards worried about losing votes so sit on the fence.
