Jay's Z4 Project :: Updated & Pic Heavy ::

Looking good, second that about the indicators. Just about to do the same on another set. What did you use to seal them shut with?

When I opened up my headlights, I used this to reseal them - ADOS MS. This was the recommendation by the guys who do repairs to headlights, and they seem to be holding up very well so far (but, to be fair, have not been out in particularly wet/humid weather yet). It was easy to apply with a caulking gun, and has dried/cured to a rubber-like seal, filling in the gaps where the headlight halves didn't quite mate perfectly.

Loving that Z4 colour, and the mods are quite extensive - looks like you've been very busy in your 'down' time

Thanks everyone, I'm made up with the good comments... if anything it means all that effort didn't go to waste!

Really love those indicators  Theh halos are on my list of winter projects. Any link to where you got the strips from/how you wired them?

I spent a ludicrous amount on the headlights (see the link below). Factoring in shipping and customs duty it's purely overkill, but I wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting a good quality effect that could pass for oem or at least a good quality set of aftermarket headlights.

http://www.xkglow.com/XKGLOW_Sequential_Switchback_Strips_for_Headlight_p/xk043001.htm

A quick search on Amazon comes up with plenty of much much cheaper options, look for any that say 'sequential', I've just had a peek through some online and many of them only flash, which is not the effect you want...

But that's basically all they are, switchback strips in a flexible tube. Everything I needed in my case came with. They are intended to be used as white daylight running lights and switch to amber along with the indicators. The white was too over the top for me combined with the halo's so I stripped them out and just kept the amber. They can also be cut down to size.

The white strips hook up the same as your halo's would if you were to use them as daylight running, and the amber connect directly to your indicator wire so whenever they receive a signal the chase strips will also kick in. I blanked off the original indicator bulbs so they didn't interfere with the effect, and I used a couple of resistors on each headlight to avoid any dash errors.

With my dad being a plumber and all he advised to use Plumbers Gold, which can be used under water in addition to baths and showers. Time will tell whether or not they hold out but I trust my dad's judgement over my own in this regard. You can pick it up on Amazon, you'll need a sealant gun too.

Hello,
good job on the car ;)
where did you get the front grill ?

The grill I got off ebay. It's a lot darker and smokier than a chrome grill but it retains the same shine, which I like.

I like the front - very purposeful and aggressive, doesn't need the 'eyebrows' though. Impressive work and glad to hear you're back on your feet and able to enjoy the car

Thanks Marlon, I think I share the same view about the eyebrows. Thanfully they're a simple pop on pop off, so having tested them they can easily be chucked in the bin.

Really great looking roadster!! some aggressive looking wheels will finish this!! really nice stuff!

OH MY GOD!!
LOVE IT!!!!!

Welcome along by the way. You need to do a full write up on these mate.

Very impressive set of mods, well so far, I'm sure there's still plenty more in the pipeline! :fuelfire:

I've got a similar sort of plan for my xenons. But that'll be a winter thing. May not even happen this year! Plenty of other bits to attend to. Also in my opinion mechanical should be first priority, so lights can wait. Will follow progress with interest!

Glad to hear you're back on your feet now and can finally enjoy all the hard work you've put in!

Ok, so the new clips arrived for the caliper covers and they still catch whilst driving which is not a good look with the top down and your wheels rattling.

Today's mission was to solve the rattling issue by doing a little modification myself, so while I was at it it seemed only right to clean up the rust bucket brake disks. Now I am under no illusion, I know my wheels are still a disgrace. They are in desperate need of restoration, but for now I can only do the best with what I have.

Onto the calipers, please bear in mind these aren't supposed to be 'fake calipers' and there is no intention to pass them off as such. They are covers to hide the God awful rusty calipers with the aim of creating a cleaner polished look. They ain't cheap and they ain't plastic. The roadster logo is etched in silver steel which probably comes across better in person, but having said that I would appreciate some honest critique as I was in two minds originally. Seeing them fitted I am more inclined to stick with them as I'm not really a fan of the painted caliper unless you're going all out for a full set of new brembo's and such.

So first without...

Cheers guys! Next job is probably fitting the rear diffuser :o

My honest opinion - your car looks fabulous, apart from those covers.
Upside is looking at the pictures don't even notice the cruddy alloys - attention is drawn to the nasty covers instead. :)
Not at all of the same calibre as the other things you've done. Defo take them off.

......unless you like them.

Haha thanks for the honest advice, I'll bear it in mind. I can't work out if I like them or not but another person's perspective is very useful so I appreciate it.

Good job mate, car looks great, and love how you had the front bumper in front of your TV, i do that sometimes with new bits, Wifey does NOT share the sentiment.

Seriously liking what your doing with the car, yeah leave the calliper covers mate, thats the only thing id do different, sides that, top bloody job

Glad to hear your health is much better now, that is the most important thing

Ok the covers are coming off, I'm convinced

Here's a better video of the headlights in action:
