Jaguar F type - initial reviews

Just picked up Autocar to see what their review is like for the F type. Its a nice looking car, slightly Z8 from the rear side view, a little bit Aston generally. Not cheap though at £67k for the supercharged V6.

The review feels a bit self-censored though. The car gets 4 stars but there's lots of talk about Jaguar's new direction and future models, seemingly to fill space. Some negatives too - "The V6 isn't the smoothest...". No LSD in the V8 or the base V6. Heavy as well for a 2-seater at 1600kgs which is bound to affect the dynamics.

The stats are similar to the Z4M - 0-62 in 4.8 seconds and 171mph top end (ok, the zed is limited to 155 but good for >170).

Overall I like it, be interesting to see how it depreciates!

As with all sports cars, it's going to be the coupe version that drives the best :driving:

Lets hope it's a bit cheaper and lighter too and even more beautiful.

Fast I'd say

I bet there's a few on here, including me, that's hoping so. However given JLR continued ascendancy I fear it may not

I had it in my shortlist a few months ago. I went to Jaguar in Thames Ditton sometime in late Feb. At the time the earliest test drive was going to be late april (they did say they would call but haven't yet). However he already had a full order book for 2013, and said that he had people on the waiting list with deposits ready just in case he could get more cars in 2013 than Jaguar originaly told him where guarenteed. Basically he said people were waiting to put down deposit for confirmed 2013 deliveries.

He was predicting delivery Feb / March 2014 if I paid the deposit then. 12 month wait!!!

If this is all true and repeated round the country, you may well see them go up initially.

When I spec'ed one out (a V6) I managed to get to £79k. Plus it's a rag top which I said I didn't want. It is a very pretty car mind, very pretty indeed. I'll bet it'll be far to sporty / track car for my liking though. Now if it has a level refinment, luxury and comfort to match it's looks then I might find myself tempted!

My plan back in Feb was to get another car and wait a coulpe of years to see what happens with these. It's either gonig to be classic and values will hold for a while, or we going see some real hard depreciation if it turns out to be a bit of a dud. Not sure which yet. Although it is one of the prettiest cars I've ever seen.... If you can find a prettier one please post a picture.

Do you know if it's possible to put an order in for a coupe version yet?

No i don't. Dealer never called me back, and now I've order a zed I'm not inclined to chase.
I think Jaguar are being very sneaky by not revealing the coupe yet. From what I've seen it's going to be absolutely stunning in looks.

I wonder if the coupe will be cheaper than the roadster or if they will go down the Boxter, Cayman route and make it more expensive?

It'll look something like the CX16 they say it'll be based on.

Its a stunner.
Do you know what's frustrating? I know most of the answers to the questions on this thread (and also future projects from different marques) but I can't tell you as I'd be in big trouble and quite possibly dead. :x

I spotted a couple of development cars on the M40 the other day. Both roadsters, one was wrapped in camouflage so couldn't really make out the shape, but the second, a black R version was undiguised and looked fantastic. It sounded awesome as it accelerated past me.

You could create a false account then come back and tell us. No one will suspect a thing!

OK so I'll make a guess.

The coupe will be cheaper. The reason it's coming out later is because they can only start production of one at a time. And as the roadster is more profitable
they have started with it first.

Am I right or am I right? 8)

Sorry, It's annoying when someone says, 'I know something you don't know'. I'll go kick my own butt for saying anything. :telloff:

I think they will hold their value well as it will have the legacy to fall back on. Now there is a real, beautiful, fast british alternative which self respecting englishman would buy a german sports car...oh wait :P

I would be interested on how this effect porsche and z4m prices...

I suspect the z4m is close to the bottom of its depreciation but i am hoping for a huge effect on the boxster cayman and 911... 8)

I think it is more likely to take business away from Aston Martin than Porsche.

Aston's Vantage is getting on a bit now and it's 30 grand more expensive. It's beautiful but starting to show it's age.

I think I would take the Jaguar over the Aston not even taking in to account the price. And I love the Aston.

its a bit lighter than a current z4 then

Just asked if I can tell about the coupe and I can.
It's due end of the year and orders will be taken then.
It's going to be 'a bit dearer' than the roadster.
(The coupe is better looking than that pic of the CX16)
