Jaguar F type - initial reviews

The press and dealers all had there big weekend in Portugal so all the info will be out by the end of the week. Press embargo to then.

Although I've drooled over one some time ago in the factory I've not driven it yet, but it's gorgeous - saloon or proposed coupe.

Should see them in dealers in a about 10 days as they are being delivered :)

Having to be content with this as eye candy for now:

JLR are playing a blinder at the moment - I'd have thought residuals will be high over the first 12 months .

It's been some model campaign Evoques, New RR, F Type, New RR Sport - with more to come.

I think launching the Roadster first is a great ploy - the 911 in cabrio form is not really a competitor , its a level above the boxter so it arrives without a real competitor . The coupe is going to have to work hard as its going to be a lot closer to 911 money .

Looking forward to seeing them in the metal

I've bought Autocar today and read the reviews of all the models (although in common with Evo and PH it is the V6S that gets the majority of the write-up). It gets a good review, but I got the lingering impression that they felt the hype hadn't been fully lived up to. Next week they are comparing it to the Boxster and 991 Cab. Oh and there will also be a full road test of the Cayman S as well for us Coupe lovers!

I'm struggling to see at the moment why you'd pay £67k for a big heavy Jag versus £47k for an equivalent performing, light, nimble Porsche, if a two-seater Roadster at the top of its game was on your shopping list. I personally think the Boxster looks nicer too and judging by the review it sounds a lot better than the V6S does.

As you might gather I'm not much of a fan. I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh but I don't really like the design from what I've seen. Maybe it's that rear end that's putting me off. Despite being quite a lot longer, wider (and heavier) than the Boxster, apparently anything more than "a couple of squashy bags" won't fit in the boot.

Oh well, I'm sure it will sell well but it's not for me from what I've seen. Mind you Jags aren't really my cup of tea generally.

It'll look something like the CX16 they say it'll be based on.

X2

Ill have mine in blue thanks :)

i was reading the discussion on PH about this car. After numerous comparisons to the boxster and the price comparison one poster said...

Aren't we all individuals though?

Said it all to me.

This is a car that will sell to older fellas that like a more regal/individual car than a young mans porsche. They will probably have bursting savings accounts to :D .

Added to thar Evoque, Range Rover Sport 2014, and All new Range Rover

Difficult to think of a brand with such a strong showing in Sporting saloons and Luxury 4x4s.

Hopefully they will have the same high hit rate with the update of Land Rover -

Defender , Freelander and Discovery is quite a model range to have to change out

I think the next move well see is a move to more combined dealerships - already happening here in Aberdeen

Comments re the JLR lineup are spot on. My dealer just had the best sales month in the history of the dealershipr and that is over 100 years.

I might be biased having left years of BMW only to get an XF, but it's just so much better than the equivelant BMW's Audi's, etc. which just look bland and have no character.

Personally I don't bother about comparing the F type to anything. You'll always find a competitor that is faster, lighter, quicker, better on track, more BHP, cheaper, etc. People buy alll sorts of 2 seater sports cars at all sorts of prices. SLK, 911, MX5, Aston Vantage, etc. and as someone posted we're all invividual.

My only issue is I do think it's overpriced, but probably not if you accept they have sold all they can make....

Not only have the sold all the can make (at least for a year) they sold them all without anyone having driven one!

And not even a journalist. They only got to touch the metal last weekend in Estoril. Prior to that they were by invite only driven around in one.

Not a very good road test against a basic 991 3.4, it looks like "all fur coat and no knickers" :)

Saw one in Ealing yesterday, a convertible. I think it's way overpriced, and if you had to choose an F type coupe over a Cayman....well it's a pretty easy choice.

As some of you know I did the marketing survey on this, and at the studios where the cars were 2 years ago, they had a 991 and a Boxster S as comparison cars....

I really do think it's the Jaguar name that is the curse, as the inevitable Jag name always sits badly with me.
If it was £50,000, then it might be a different story. Long live Land Rover......but Jaguar? Not so sure......

I'm not sure what your point is re: the jaguar "curse"....seeing as they appear to already have a substantial waiting list on the F type.
