...Go for it
I was going to 'go for it' but SWMBO decided that it was just a bit rich for our tastes right now. If it still around in May we'll reconsider. Plus there will undoubtedly be more available then (and heading into winter down here the verts may be slightly better priced)

I had a 981 cayman before my F type..

The Cayman was superb, very agile and precise.

The Jag is much quicker but is more GT than sports car,its a lovely place to sit whilst doin a few miles
And that's exactly what I'm after - more GT than sports car. I'm not really into the hard core performance/track demon type experience, which is why I have no problem with where the E89 sits. The F-type S seems to be a nicer place to be in than the E89, complete lack of storage space notwithstanding...

From what my brother reports you should be happy in the F type. I hope you convince the Mrs.
Brother paid about half the new cost on a low miles red coupe for a 2014. His comparison to the E89 I sent him to drive was the Z4 was too much of a sport car for his wife. She is happy with the Jag

The owner should provide a print out with receipts for service history
The owner is a car dealer. I would certainly hope they know how to do this if requested.

Most Jags are serviced within the network and as such you can access their service history online: https://osh.jaguar.com/
Be aware you will need the VIN number and you may have to register through "Topix". All pretty straightforward and available to would be buyers. Hope this helps.

That could help very much thanks. I've got the VIN so will give it a try soon

Tried it, but unfortunately it says "not eligible for online service history" :x

That's a shame but not sure how to interpret "not eligible". Did you register on TOPIX?
My last Jag was accessible to any one and I dont recall it being a problem. I have a feeling the fellow I sold it to still hasn't serviced it buy I will try and check as if I were a punter and advise you how I got on.

Just tried my "old" Jag and it came up albeit and somewhat disappointingly no record of the 2nd service by my local Jag dealer! Tried your vin number and it advises no record of this vin. Perhaps you recorded it wrongly?

Definitely correct VIN as i can pull the spec list on a VIN decoder site (which is how I found it doesn't have heated seats, but being an ex-Singapore car that's hardly surprising).

Afraid I'm at a loss to understand why it doesn't show. My current Jag comes up fine so I wonder whether it's a geographic thing albeit I would like to think that has nothing to do with it. I suppose it's just possible it has been serviced outside the dealer network. Having said that it should be reporting that a service is overdue.
Wish I could help more but I'm clean out of ideas.

28 F-types in the country currently for sale. 10 convertible, 6 'S' type, 1 in the South Island (which is the one I was looking at). So not a lot of choice if I don't want to travel, or buy sight unseen, which I did for my E89 and that didn't exactly turned out fantastic with the work that needed doing to get it back to (mostly) how it should have been.

I bought mine unseen this time last year. Thankfully it was absolutely mint with only 2k on the clock for a 2014 car. There were probably 50-100 a day for sale on Autotrader at the time but not many with the spec I wanted until this beaut turned up.

Beautiful   . Glad to hear the 'gamble' (sight unseen) paid off. Convince me why I should look again in May... (if the covid-19 restrictions have lifted and life resumed...)?
That is, what do you love about it, or what would you advise me to steer clear of?

What's not to love about it. :D
If buying again I would consider the V8 but the "S" is really more than enough unless it's going to be a pure weekend car.
My must haves were Performance seats and Meridian Hifi which limited my options but was patient and thankfully this one came up. This one has the top of the range 770w Meridian and I think it's fine but the standard Stereo is supposed to be not very good.
If buying from a Dealer I'd go for one under 5 years. Mine was 2 weeks shy of it's 5th Birthday so qualified for a 2 year extended Warranty.
Again if buying from a Dealer I'd go for the Ceramic Coating. I think I paid around £360 for mine and other than wash the car I've put nothing else on it and it still shines like glass.
You're probably aware of the rear subframe surface corrosion. Some have had it replaced under warranty, others have just wire brushed and painted. either way it's not a Biggie.
As far as common faults/failures you need to keep the roof drains clean like the E85 and other than that be prepared that if anything does go wrong it's likely to be costly.
Don't know if you've test driven one for me but as soon as I did I knew I had to have one. :D
The only other car I was looking at was one of the last 6 pot Cayman S's but to find one with the must have Sports Chrono and Sports Exhaust was proving futile.
Do have a look again when things pick up again....I'm sure there'll be plenty of stock going in what will definitely be a buyers market.

Thanks, great reply. I wasn't aware of the rear subframe issue, so will get that checked if I go back to it. The one I looked at had the sports seats (agreed - a must have), and Meridian stereo - are there different specs or as long as I can see meridian it will be the 'good' one?
The market is so small for these types of vehicles that I doubt there will be much change in numbers if I decide to chase it again. Chances are the one I looked at may still be on the yard so I might be able to push for a better deal. All of this is optimism in the face of the next 4 weeks (at least) of lockdown of course.

There's 2 Meridian systems easily identifiable by the door tweeter showing "Meridian" which is the 380w, and "Meridian Surround" which is the 770w.

I just checked. It says 'Meridian Surround' by the door handle

came so close to buying an S V8 a year or so ago, ticks all of the sports cars essentials , very similar to the E85 imo. I found the difference between the 6 and 8 to be well worth it.

The 8's are a lot more expensive though, unless you want a high mileage example (along with any mileage-related issues that might be pending), and probably a bit 'too much' for me. I'd be happy with 'only' 380ish BHP from the V6 S

The V6 gets to around 430 bhp with just a tune and a crank pulley mod, more than enough really and still keeps the nice balance..
