Jacking Tool Jack Point Adapetr Pad - Any good?

Why are these needed? I've always just used the trolley jack via the specified points without any issue. I know they do adapters for cars with pinch-welds, as they can get crushed, but the Z4 doesn't have that issue.

Or am I missing something?

I've done the same , and there isn't a mark in the rubber/plastic mount from doing so. I do put a bit if wood in between the jack and underside jacking mounts when getting axle stands under the sill mounts.

i brough some of these from a link stu truman provided i took the utter piss out of them when i recieved it.. Honestly...?? i use the jack pad everytime i jack the car, it makes things much easier and faster, and keeps the jack well away from the car..... i wouldnt be without mine.... thanks stu, great recommendation, howeever the one i have is made from super stiff rubber so it gives alittle.... much prefur that material!

I've got one of these and always use it when jacking up the car. Great little device that does exactly what is supposed to do i.e. protect the jacking point.

I have one in a box somewhere, when I had Z's and a couple of other BMW's I used it every time. WORKS GREAT ! I also have 4 of the OEM pads that bolt under the vehicle if anyone needs to replace one.

I'm keeping my jack adapter (from ECS Tuning) but I would let a forum member have a replacement pad for shipping cost.

Pointless item which introduces another slip point when lifting, but some folks like them.

I just use a decent trolley jack (3 tonne) which has a proper deep pad on it and in reality the rear of the car is always jacked up by the central point so would not work in any event on those points.

EDIT for clarification - when jacking the car up high (by which I mean 50cm+) there is a significant set of lateral forces. Adding jack, pad, lifting point and car bodywork in a sandwich risks a collapse. The design linked to here is held together with just as single machine screw
Just lifting a wheel off the ground - no issue

I use a rectangular piece of hard rubber that sits snugly inside the jacking point and is just protruding by a few mm. When I jack the car up, the rubber compresses to take some of the weight and spread the load but helps to grip the jack cup to prevent slippage. The rubber can't slip out and most of the weight is still directly on the jacking point.

That makes sense and I'm sure works well

Thanks for letting me know how useless these are, I'll now go and dump mine in the nearest dustbin!

They're not useless! Byron, I lost mine and replaced it with a machined aluminium one. The M jacking points are different I believe and mine have no rubber bungs in the four mount points. IIRC you jack the M centrally on a different point?

Certainly not useless - fits securely into the lifting point on my jack and then into the recess in the lifting point - much more secure

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like the Jury's out!

As I have decided to go for a Conti mobility kit with my newly fitted non-RFT's I think I'll stick with the trolley jack in the garage and use the central jacking points (and axle stands!).
