"jack it in"

I believe that you can by a jack and wheel brace from BMW. Does anybody know the part number for this bit of kit?

It comes as a universal set I believe, not sure on the price

Don't know if it helps but I just got a jack from an E46 from a local breaker for about tenner and a wheel brace for about another tenner from the same place, not sure how much that kit from BMW will be but I wouldn't expect much change from £50 if not £100.
I keep them in the side spaces in the boot for emergencies and use a trolley jack at home.

As above. Get a jack for any car from a breakers and buy one of the extending braces from any tool supplier. The ones that come with most cars are crap.

As with most parts the official BMW parts are a rip off. BMW mobility kits £70. Can of tyre foam and a Ring compressor £20.

Give it a go. Here's how my dealer experience went:

"I want a spare wheel set for my 5 Series."
- "No problem sir, can we have your VIN number? (VIN number provided) Oh... sorry, your car doesn't have a spare wheel."
"I know that, that's why I want one..."
- "No. Your car doesn't need a spare wheel as it has run flat tyres"
"No, it doesn't. It did... but now, it doesn't"
- "Sorry. We can't sell you one, because your car isn't supposed to have a spare wheel. It's supposed to have run flat tyres"

So, I bought one on eBay from BMW Direct. Because they can sell one to you, even when a BMW dealer can't sell you one. :headbang:

My guess, it would be the same for a jack & wheelbrace... you don't need those. Your car's got RFTs....

I want to remove the rear wheels to paint the" top hat" section that's why I need a wheel brace. :-)

If I'm at home I use a 17mm socket and ratchet to remove and a torque wrench to tighten, the wheel brace is for emergency use only.
But any motor factor will do a wheel brace far cheaper than anything from a stealer.

RichardG - do you carry this because you have non-RFTs and it is easier to get goo in and inflate the tyre with it jacked ? Or is it really a 'just in case' bit of kit because there is any number of reasons you might need a jack ? Only asks I ave only just gotten RFTs and am now paranoid I am a piece of kit down :?

I am running non-RFTs and have done for years, I do carry a bottle of goo and compressor besides the battery (I think it is a Continental Mobility Kit) but with the jack and brace I'm just covering all bases never you never know what might happen and knowing my luck I'll get a puncture that the goo can't seal for whatever reason.

 Cheers, sounds like a worthwhile investment for a few quid...
