I've been quiet recently...

if you want to be exclusive, the alpine white, space grey, midnight blue or pheonix yellow Z4M's are what you want

Also sorry to hear this news John - glad no one was hurt and hope you can decide on replacement soon - it's certainly a buyer's market for most marques just now so choice is good - making choosing tricky ! Hope you stick with a zed though :driving:

Your insurance company sounded like a pack of jokers John, but glad you got the correct settlement in the end. Can't believe you're gonna miss Islay though!

I'm far too attached to my car at the moment to even consider anything else - even a different Z4 would be difficult. I don't do twitter so have no idea what you're considering, but I know where you're coming from about non-Z4 ownership...

Siftah, as mentioned before, good work in the insurance company battle.

Agree with a11y, understanding wanting to try something different. I probably would.

Still think you should get a rental for Islay in the mean time :driving:

Good shout - something like a Fiat 500 would be a laugh and cheap. You could drive it on the door handles... I'm just remembering reading all these trip reports of folk who get cheap flights, hire a fleet of Fiat 500s and take them up the Stelvio pass...

Sorry to hear about your loss, also sorry to hear about the wrangling with the Insurance payout :(.

I don't envy you regarding an alternative to the Z4MR, when I was looking the only choice was Z4MR or Boxster S. You're either going up into the big boy bracket (911 etc) or the other side of the coin, SLK and the ilk.
Looking at the track days you've done, handling will be at the top of the list! :driving:

Rumor has it Lotus are looking at doing a six cylinder Exige :o now that would be truly ballistic :)

Look forward to hear what you go for :)

You're on the money, I've been toying with the idea of a 996 Carrera as you can pick up a very well spec'd 2002 Targa for about 5k more than a Z4MR. Definitely not the sensible choice though, higher servicing costs and a bigger risk of problems, older car too. Mileages though are similar, I've seen 2002 plate cars on 50k or less miles.

Boxster's don't appeal, It's definitely between the Z4MR and a Carrera. I've not even considered an SLK as everything I've read about them says the handling is just not there.

That would probably be right up my street, but definitely out of my budget :)

I think I've gotten used to the luxury of the Z4 too, I'd miss my comfy leather seats and hifi audio, suspect the Exige would be just a bit too raw for me (OMG, am I getting old!?)

That sounds like a giggle actually...

A work colleage does, or at least used to have a stake in a little side business that hires out prestige cars... have dropped him an email :)

If it's between a Z4MR and a Carrera, (this will be sacrilege) I'd go 996 / 997. Carrera S if I could, I've kind of resigned myself to the next car being a nice 997 S from a Dealer (2 year warranty should keep the pain under control). That's a way down the road so I can save up :).

Awesome as the Z4MR is (bang for buck, nothing really touches it), a 911 is a different league (well the ones I've driven anyway) :driving: then again it's double the cost :)

You pays your money :)

That's the point I'm at too - I know the likely repair bills are going to be both more likely to happen and significantly higher when they do. I'd intended on a budget which puts me in the market for a 2002-2004 996 with about 50k on the clock. Just about warrantable.

Waiting 6 months means I can put a bit of rainy-day money in the bank and then decide which way to go - I think the 997 will still be a bit more than I want to pay though.

But still, a Z4M's a lot of motor for the money and in some ways, probably more involving to drive.

I've heard lots of scare stories about the 996, but only from people who've never owned one. The people who've owned one or own one seem to be saying go for it and that I wouldn't regret it, so it's difficult to make a good decision... I've lots of time to ponder anyway :)

You got the money from the insurance company for your damaged Z - but is the new premium mean their going to get it back from you!

Sorry to hear about your accident.... Not much of a consolation but i thought you were a damn fine driver at the wales meet earlier in the year... But glad the insurance company have done right by you.

I used to think that, but a bush convinced me otherwise :headbang:

I'm still quite annoyed with myself, such a silly mistake, couple of inches too far to the left and not quite paying enough attention and... oh well.

We all make an error of judgement from time to time and usually get away with it but I got to say total respect to you for taking responsibility for whatever did happen which is unusal these days.

The insurance companies *always* win!

I firmly believe something needs to happen with insurance in the UK, we've been being screwed over for far too long. Anything that is a legal requirement to have, should, IMHO, have much stronger regulation on the price. I think the insurance companies are too easily able to work together and fix prices, there's nothing much driving the price down and it seems effectively to be a racket.

There needs to be a sensible policy put in place to deal with dodgy whip-lash claims, try and reign in the things which are pushing premiums up.

Major pet-hate of mine and one of the reasons I was *so* determined to get a fair valuation out of them, I know I'm going to end up paying it all back over the next few years so the very least I could do was to get a decent amount out of them for the car! :)

I'd have tried to pretend it wasn't my fault but... well, I think there may have been a witness or two... :)

(I think it's hard to argue really, if you're driving, it's pretty much your fault :))

Looking forward to seeing what you end up with. Would love to see you end up with a Z4M, so we dont lose you from the forum but i understand how you'd want to try something different too. I would want to as well.

+1 tempting to change - and we'd still let you visit the odd zed run (maybe!)
