So I wake up in better spirits this morning after last night pretty much coming to turns with the fact the car may have hgf. Called my step Dad who is an rac recovery driver and asks if he could compression test it etc, to be 100%. At least that way I can just call the warranty company in the morning, tell them what it is and get it sorted.

So go out to the car to go over there and the fcuking thing won't start :x Battery is dead. Nothing obvious has been left on. Right pia to get it jump started but once its there a 70 mile trip hopefully it'll be fine. But no, it just about started again when I got here. So going to have some fun and games now trying to get it all sorted.

Really starting to have a sense of humour failure now.

Any common problems with regards to this?

mark..... your REALLY having a bad time of it aren't you matey... i do feel for you.....Bear in mind it could be on it stock battery which in any case would mean it was probably due replacement some time ago..... Iron out the wrinkles and you'll have a cracking motor :-) it does seem however that you have a problematic vehicle, i try to keep on top off all the maintainence items before they fail usually....As much as a ball-ache it is, modern day batteries just dont last long.........

Bloody Hell! you been walking under ladders and breaking mirrors? Feel for you really do. You can loose confidence in a car when it seems to have one issue after another. But as Beedub says batteries go after 4/5 years so maybe it's just bad luck. Also. there's been a few odd side effects of poor batteries such a wrning lights odd rrattles and noises. Might it be your battery causing you're other engine noises??

I know how it is - a trifle can spoil the entire day. The battery must've been long overdue anyway. Just leave it for a couple of days in capable hands.

I reckon bad luck so far. I had a few teething troubles with my car after buying, to the tune of near £1k. I bought private so had no warranty.

Since then, no real issues :)

So it seems to be a universal rule, regardless of the country and the make (Civic, Tiburon, Z4). I usually buy second-hand cars, and my usual practice is to set aside an additional 4,000.00 PLN (approx. 812 GBP) for the necessary repairs. The vehicles are not old and with a relatively low mileage, but it just the sellers who don't want to invest in the car they want to part ways with. Once you make up for that, your worries are over.

Same here mate, hang on in there,it is often said whenever you buy a second hand car,you are only buying someone else's problems.Ours needed over £1k of work doing to it in the first couple of weeks/months.

Well just ran some fancy test machine on it and it showed the battery is goosed. My luck took a turn for the better as he had exactly thee right battery on board. So a brand new Bosch fitted and it passed the test with flying colors

Now on to the hgf failure tests..... Wish me luck

Yup, next time my car misbehaves I am doing that.

As for your car - like everyone says, stick with it, it will be worth it. You never spot everything when you buy, you simply can't, so deep breaths, count to ten, and I have my fingers crossed for you regrading the hg.

Had the same when my battery died and had it replaced. Apparently we need to "register" the battery with the car's computer again, it has to be done by either a BMW dealer or a garage with an appropriate diagnostics computer.

My mechanic said that if the new battery is on a slightly higher amper rating then it will need to be registered. Mine was.

completely correct...... any battery different to the stock amp rating will need to be registered as the car will either fry the thing by overcharging or under charge it if its a higher rated unit.......
