Hi all.

Anyone had any bad experience with de badging? ie marks left behind or indeed wishing they hadn’t done it? Anyone think it chavs the car or indeed enhanced it? Any tips on actually doing it?

Cheers

Use dental floss in a sawing motion, you’ll get a classier car in minutes 8)

Why do it at all? It really does seem a pointless exercise.

If you want the badges removed it’s an essential exercise

I had been pondering debadging mine - plenty seem to have with no issues.
It was just laziness preventing me from getting round to it til I read a post on here maybe 3 or 4 months ago of someone who took the engine size badges off the wings and was left with a mark. Not just hazy outline that could be polished out - more like a slight indentation I recall.
The only time I have ever heard anyone having a problem, but enough to put me off and decide they're not that offensive and can stay put.

You could always do what I did, and get run into by a bus on one side and pushed over into a truck on the other side. Amazingly no panel damage other than burnt rubber marks on both sides, but both 3.0 badges were off and gone

Even if i didn’t have it done involuntarily I would have done it myself sooner or later; I much prefer the cleaner look.

Looks much better debadged - all cars do!

Like Smartbear says, dental floss in sawing motion.

Then hairdryer to warm up the glue residue.

Use thumb to rub off residue and get a blistered thumb :headbang:

Then quick polish and wax over area. Job done

Or you could save a couple of quid and use plumber's PTFE tape for the same result!

That’s a surprise, I’ve got visions of that stretching & breaking? :?

I got annoyed by the ///M badge on the boot of my son's 335i so debadged it using dental floss and some WD40 for the residue. Turns out the //M badge is apparently from the factory (oops), so son wasn't thrilled - I suppose I should have asked first

Yep this is how I did mine use hairdryer to warm up the adhesive of the badge first and then dental floss. Just be careful when rubbing off the excess residue to just use your thumb and not your finger nails since that can scratch the paint! :!:

Mine is original, debadged from new by bmw. Saved me from removing the tawdry things!

Mine was debadged before I bought it & I prefer the cleaner look. No sign of any badges being there previously but I've no idea if BMW would have done a factory debadge back then :idunno: . It's all a matter of personal taste of course  .

I always debadge my cars. It makes cleaning and polishing so much easier and I hate nasty chrome badges identifying the car. Everyone knows what it is, there's no need to advertise it

I know there are exceptions to the rule but it often seems that its the base cars which get debadged. In the case of the Z4 that would be the 4 cylinder 2.0ltr models.
