Isolating heat in the boot

Hello,

Today I was carrying some frozen food in the boot, and noticed that the bag was pretty hot when I took it out, as the exhaust crosses the boot. I thought there would be some possibility of isolating the metal of the boot, maybe with bituminous sheet or something similar

Does anybody have experience with that?

It might make a small difference, I recently did my boot floor and boot lid to reduce exhaust noise (it worked quite well) but there's a lot of metalwork in the way that makes it hard to completely insulate the boot. You're probably better off getting a cool bag you can leave in the boot for cold stuff.

I've done my boot floor (except for the cavity where the battery is) and it was pretty easy. Just got some of that cheap rubber/foil material. I wasn't doing it for heat tho but exhaust drone.

I also did the heat shield above the muffler - I imagine this might give you the most "gains" in terms of temp supression.

Little bit OT sorry but how did you do the boot lid? Did you cover the cut outs in the metal work? I've done the floor and even the plastic panel that covers the tail lights and the underside of the parcel shelf - only the boot lid left but not sure how to do it without it looking pez!

I cut the insulation to the shape of the single skin areas, slightly larger so once it's tucked in it covers the whole flat surface, then I cut out bits of a cheap floor mat so they were a tight fit and covered the insulation with them, looks alright in my opinion.

If you wanted to do the whole thing I think you could cover it with some of the stretchy carpet, it's just tidying up the edges would be a pain.

Ah that looks alright actually with the carpet covering the foil! Thanks I'll add this to mine as well
