the alpina spoiler is soooooooo much better than the bmw offering... it really looks awesome 
its quite sad seeing the car their Stu..... i REALLY hope the ///M lives upto your expectation and is a relaible car for you.... i think your going to see a very large difference in the cars.... mine has been completely reliable, completely enjoyable, its a car i cant see myself being without, so many great little upgrades without going silly Tyres and Geo setup on this car completely change the way it behaves!

£16850 is a fair price for colour and condition I think. She was all but spotless, recently serviced, new rear tyres within a few weeks, mot last week no advisories. Give or take a little negotiation someone will get a great car. *wistful look*

She's a thing of beauty alright! Mind you so, is her replacement.
Going to be careful what I say here as she is Stuarts Pride and Joy and clearly muched loved and well looked after - I trust he got a great part ex price for it.
however after looking at a few Alpinas last year I would say this looks like a 3k premium over a comparable private buy. 17k is where Sytners are pitching Alpinas at the moment they also have a car in Leics. I know there is a warranty to take into account but there is a fair dealer tax on this.
For me the Alpina is not worth it's price premium over the M - on a simple like for like basis to sytners Alpina pricing ( Stuarts car and one other) you get a 20k mile 07-08 M from a main dealer . My concern is that Roadster S are a little over valued and are perhaps due a correction.
For me it comes down to this Alpina enthusiasts tend to go out and search for only Alpina Roadsters which pushes prices up- M enthusiasts love the Z3M coupe but don't get the Z4M meaning they currently offer great value.
Oh well so much for not commenting

I think that in the medium-term, you'll see both RS and ///M prices flattening out, the Alpina prices seem to be hitting that plateau already and, because of the limited number of RHD cars, decent examples will become harder and harder to find which will create a premium for the best examples. The same will happen with the ///M a but, because of the greater numbers produced, and the higher running costs (especially as the government pushes up road tax), the prices of decent Ms will probably flatten out at a slightly lower level but the best-kept examples will still command a premium. If BMW produce an M version of the next-gen Z4, Z4M prices will be affected further - this has always been the case with other M cars and the prices of used M3s & M5s start to drop when the new version appears (excluding rare, limited-edition or 'classic' versions).
I think part of the issue with pricing for all M-cars as they get older is that 'cheap' M-cars have always attracted 'youfs' who want to boast that they have an M-car but can't afford to maintain them properly, so once they drop to a certain price point they get into 'the wrong hands' and, subsequently, become a risky buy which depresses prices for those cars further - this means that you end up with a two-tier pricing structure for M-cars, with a selection of cars at low prices for the vehicles that have been 'chavved' and a second tier of cars at higher prices because they have been well looked after and cherished (not quite as simple as that because the boundaries are blurred, but you get the idea)
You don't seem to get that effect with Alpinas (of any variety) because they are a little more esoteric and don't give the shell-suit mob the same bragging rights 'dahn tha boozah' on a Friday night - it's no good saying 'Ah've just gotta halpina' if you then have to explain to everyone what it is and why it's special :lol:

It would be interesting to see what the effect on prices would be, if any, if the government, in a rare gesture of generosity, chose to exempt cars like our Z4M's from the current Road Fund rates on the basis they are "classics".
The RS has one other thing going for it. IIRC it was the last Alpina model to be properly built up in Buchloe. I'm ready to be corrected on that though.
When I talked to them about what they were likely to retail #69 for, the were talking about the same price as the Leicester car as although mine was older and higher miles, they said it was the most desirable colour.

plus Allrad (4WD) versions that were available in Europe
The B3 along with the D3/D3BT ended up as Alpina's 'volume' car and, excluding the E30 version, there have been 830 imported (and 872 D3/D3BT) so there's a few more of them around and, I believe, that once they and the D3/D3BT received UK type-approval, they became available as company lease cars - as a consequence some will have been looked after better than others and prices will be all over the place
