Is the Z4 a car with rattles, or is mine a car that rattles?

On the E89, where the rear window section meets the deck, you sometimes get a bit of creaking/rattling. As others have said, it pretty much depends on temperature and humidity levels and when the roof was last moved. I think you have to expect this to some degree on a roadster.

My '07 roadster rattles in the cabin. It didn't prior to the stealership installing an alarm (which required them to remove plastic panels between/behind the seats). I'm trying to track down where I need to add foam.

I've had the car around 2 months now. I'm slowly developing a real love/hate relationship with the car (Z4M Roadster).

The sound is wonderful, the power addictive and I love the modern look of the car. I'm even accepting the mpg. lol

The only thing that is irritating me is a selection of cabin creaks/rattles when hitting bumps on the road.

The worst of all is from the dash, especially the vents. Are there screws that I can check if they are tight .
I've already improved a few with sticky back velcro, removed the creaking wind deflector, and padded the storage cupboard.

I wonder if it is made worse as it's a roadster and therefore more flex/movement around the roof edge?
Or does the Z not have much sound proofing to stop the plastics creaking? ?

The previos Audi TT and even the wife's Rover 25 have far less rattles.

Make sure your tool kit in the back is well packed. I wrapped each in a paper towel so there is no metal to metal contact whatsoever. Also have your dealer grease all the roof mechanism it will make a lot of strange noises go away.

mine does this any way of stopping it ? thought of sticking foam on the panels behind the seat ?

Get the odd creak and rattle that comes and goes. Pretty normal in owning a roadster/convertible motor.

All convertables have rattles and squeaks, especially one with such stiff suspension. The only irritating noise I have with my 03 model is a squeaky drivers seat. You can't hear any of it with the top down or with the stereo turned up a bit. :D

Not tried anything i may try driving with the seat a little further forward if its not to cramped feeling but as said above i cannot here it with stereo on or top down and even when i have the top up i often have the drivers window open.

I've had the odd squeek or rattle that has come and gone, but with a fairly uncompromising sports car like the zed I wouldn't consider it a problem.

As CJ said, it's not a 5 Series - so who cares?

Listen to the engine note and the rattles will disappear

Or remove some foam from the sound generator pipe :driving:

PS i had a constant squeak that was coming from the passenger side cupholder - i removed it and replaced with the blanking plate

After a while I think you notice it less, you develop a deafness to the tone :).
My Z4 M Coupe has more rattles than my Si Coupe did. I think it's partly down to the cupholders my M has which I still haven't got around to changing for blanks. My glovebox makes a noise sometimes, especially after having been opened and closed until it settles in again. The lock used to rattle/squeak but seems to have stopped doing that and I always lock it now even when empty

All hard suspensioned cars will suffer some rattles/squeaks. Mate bought a Boxster and that was the same, dealer told him to accept it when he returned it to complain (or sell up).

A year ago I was driivng a lot through country lanes and noticed it a lot. Doing more motorway driving now and also other better condition roads and hardly notice any noises at all now
