Is the Z4 a car with rattles, or is mine a car that rattles?

I've had the car around 2 months now. I'm slowly developing a real love/hate relationship with the car (Z4M Roadster).

The sound is wonderful, the power addictive and I love the modern look of the car. I'm even accepting the mpg. lol

The only thing that is irritating me is a selection of cabin creaks/rattles when hitting bumps on the road.

The worst of all is from the dash, especially the vents. Are there screws that I can check if they are tight .
I've already improved a few with sticky back velcro, removed the creaking wind deflector, and padded the storage cupboard.

I wonder if it is made worse as it's a roadster and therefore more flex/movement around the roof edge?
Or does the Z not have much sound proofing to stop the plastics creaking? ?

The previos Audi TT and even the wife's Rover 25 have far less rattles.

mine does not make any noise, although mine is a coupe i don't think ragtops should be any different

Having owned a roadster and now a coupe the roadster definately had more rattles and creaks.

no rattles in mine.. but in the cold the roof rubs against the roll bars which makes a very anoying noise.

One hell of an annoying rattle on passengers side of my roadster! Part of the roof - can't seem to stop it.

It's more annoying than any rattle on my previous Renault!

My 2004 roaster rattles quite a bit when the cabin is cold and then as warms up from the heater it rattles less lol. The main rattles are from the sunvisors knocking against the roof structure. Also a big rattle from the central locking pins when the car is unlocked = solution = always drive with the doors locked

Had a few, but tracked them down over the years and all now gone bar the odd one when the car temp is very low and clear up as soon as warm. Sometimes a good pothole induces one that settles down after a mile or 2.

It is though a roadster and not a 5 series

I found that the plastic trim panels to the side of the windscreen rattled a bit so I wedged them with a bit of foam which stopped it. Also the wind deflector behind the driver's seat buzzes at certain speeds. Other than that no real issues.
Fit a sports exhaust and you wont be able to hear them anyway! :)

Passenger side drives me absolutely crazy.. Find myself driving while randomly pushing items to try and stop the noise :headbang:

Had plenty of rattles when it was new, but then I had quite a few issues when it was new

However over the years it has settled down, and apart from the odd rattle every now and again, it is pretty quiet.

I have had far more rattly cars in the past than this

Mine's got a couple of of creaks and groans. The passenger side seatbelt buckle rattles on the door. So I drive with it clicked in. The sunvisors creak against the roof frame occasionally. A quick nudge and a poke shuts them up. The most worrying noise was a clunk/creak from behind the dashboard when the front struts were under loading. Specifically when decending/ascending a curb at an angle, or driving one wheel at a time over a speed bump. The front drivers side bracing strut needed torquing up again. Once I'd read a load of threads on here, simples.

Are you sure it's the car rattling, and not something up with your hearing - probably got some grit in there from driving with the top down :P

The only places my Z4MC creaks from are the drop-down cubby hole, and when the seats rub on the transmission tunnel - but I don't keep anything loose in the car anyway (except for that emergency bottle of Cognac for when I eventually get stuck in the snow).

I had one behind the passenger seat which was the wind deflector panels ratteling, took me ages to find it but just re fitted it and all ok now..

the most annoying one was the one INSIDE my gear knob.. simple solution was buy a ZHP :)

I've got one rattle but it's extremely annoying! It comes from the drivers side where the plastic panel meets the fabric hood, just behind the door window. Pressing lightly on the panel or the hood stops it completely so I'm hoping it will be easy to fix when I get time to have a look!

no rattling from mine AT ALL, my TT on the other hand rattles like crazy, sometimes it drives me mad, i got the z4m out this morning and no its a solid as a rock!

None in my 04 roadster the only noise i get sometimes is the back of my seat rubbing but i have pushed a long way back
