We have our 04 Reg Fiesta as our daily - had it since new and still looks practically new but whilst taking care where to park etc it's so much less stressful - its easy to drive , economical and never let us down ! We take it several times a year to Hither Green ( using the South Circular ) and Cardiff to visit family and its ideal worry free transport.
Having said all this there is nothing like the thrill of the zed - even just looking at it gives you that feelgood factor. My wife doesn't really share my love of the zed though - she loves our other " car ^ ( 1989 VW Campervan ) which we've had for 6 years and if I even think about selling it she'll divorce me !!!!!!!.

Problem is...if you sell the Z4MC and buy a Golf for example, I'm assuming it will be a relatively new example anyway and you'll still be worried about it getting dings etc. Same worries, different car. Oh and when the time comes when you want some fun, Golf or Z4MC? Not much of a contest.

I had times thinking about switching to a more practical car too, thinking it'd be easier to park anywhere. Well, wrong idea, because I would be getting something like a new 3 series and then I would still be worried about parking it
So having a nice car and a cheap run around next to it, is a great idea 
I found the easiest way round this was to just use the Z and stop worrying about it! It's a car. Someone said to me once "I don't know why people wrap their cars up in cotton wool! I'm really glad they do mind as I end up getting a great second hand car deal! I for one wont pay a fortune for a car then just spend years looking after it for the next owner!"

I think part of the problem is there is so much talk of detailing and polishing and keeping the Z looking immaculate, that for people that use the car daily all year round or don't have the use of a garage then there is a lot of pressure to keep the car looking perfect and to be honest it can be a bit of a drag.
As some have already said, enjoy driving it during the winter and try not to get as stressed about the odd stone chip or small scratch, then visit a detailer in March and get it looking A1 for when it really matters, when the sun is shining.
And try to find time for one decent run once a week to keep the engine in good nick and a smile on your face
I have been having similar thoughts, have been contemplating selling mine, hope the feeling passes for us both. Maybe we all need to have more impromptu meets/drives, as well as the well organised large scale ones, to keep these devilish thoughts at bay :evil:

I wouldn't know how to detail a car and I wash mine only when I can't see where I'm going anymore, yet I bet mine's just as fast as yours

Yes, there is a lot of people who seem proud to show they have only done a stupidly low amount of miles in a long time, specially with Ms. Drive and enjoy them 
One of the main reasons is probably that if you are doing a 10-20 min commute for 3/4s of that the car is a hog because its still not warmed up to peak. So its notchy, jumpy, heavy on the steering for those short roundabouts. Then it only just warms up fully and feels better as you arrive, I suppose not something you want early in the morning. But when its warm its great, also weather is a big + too when when sun is out, sunnies on, press the loud pedal and you get the cheshire cat grin.
I think as said, just enjoy it for what it is. Keep doing what you do, switch the polo and the Z every other day and just enjoy it I suppose. I think it could be a case of dont know what you have till its gone. Because deep down you love it and think its brilliant. Also love the looks you get as you are probably one of a small crowd of women to own such a car. Which is pretty damn cool if you ask me and most men are extremely jealous.
The golf is complete droll in comparison. Unless you buy a GTI or an R, but when you factor in the cost of buying them and how much you will be offered for the Z I think you will feel worse. Then your in the same position because it will be new and when someone nicks it or it get banged etc
Also being in London it does take the edge off having a nice car, as everyone has one. Its like what exactly do you aspire to, to be different?

But not for all, but for some we buy a car for more than just a car. Its an emotional investment and like anything else is like a roller coaster, but youll soon be back on top with the car and be really glad you have it, as you know its a pretty special thing.

I use my Z4 as a daily driver and the journey to work is pretty awful stop start traffic all the way except a short stretch at the end. It does make me feel like I'm wasting the car and regarding keeping the car pristine I feel I'm facing a never ending battle. I would have a second car but can't justify it.
Then I look at the positives I get to drive a great car every day and on the occasions I get it out of the city I really enjoy it. When I look at the other cars at work I am even more greatfull I have the Z then there is all the positive comments I get about how clean it always is and good it looks it makes it worthwhile and I think I'm lucky to have one.

Trust me I have driven it a lot. I now know the M6 like the back of my hand.
I know it is great to drive, when I am not stop starting. Its the additional stuff associated with it that I mentioned at the start that I find frustrating. And yes maybe I have become more precious about it because a lot of people here talk a lot about detailing etc. Quite frankly, I don't have the time.
