Is it worth updating the Sat Nav maps.

I noticed the maps have never been updated since new (2014). Is it worth the 49 quid BMW are asking to update them? (usb update).

Well depends where you drive and how dependent you are on sat nav....lots of roads and especially junctions change a lot..

The key issue is does your version accept full 8 digit postcodes..earlier versions only supported the first 6 digits which is not a lot of use..

Updates bring 8 digit support..

I think mine supports 8 digits. £49 from BMW doesn't sound too bad as I think they used to charge more at one time.

I updated mine from 2014, to the latest this year, saves me driving through fields, well the sat nav thinks so any way

Personally I think it’s worth it if you travel a wee bit :driving:

How long did it take to load Keyper?

Mines the old e85 with a DVD, that required a patch first, say 5 mins, then the maps run off the DVD, yours being more modern may be different will it?

I went for it last year soon after I bought my 2015 E89 after finding that it still had the maps from the year of manufacture and I could see a fair few changes when driving in France.
However - even the latest updates didn't entirely reflect reality. Some of the French roads I knew to have been changed more than 12 months previously weren't up to date. So you get an improvement but it isn't perfect.
I got my map updates as part of a package deal of digital services that left me underwhelmed generally. The real-time traffic info was something I thought I wanted. I have it on my daily dull-mobile (Mercedes E class) where it works well but first time I tried to use it in the Zed it wanted to change my route 18 times in 30 minutes. Maybe it needed configuring but I don't recall configuring anything on the Merc to get a sensible well balanced output. Don't recall what other services were bundled but nothing memorable. This year I didn't renew. Perhaps I'll do another map update in 2-3 years but doubt I'd do the other stuff again.

He's in Norfolk! The only thing that changes here is the quantity of the sugar beet in the middle of the lane. Mind you, they're best treated as a mini-roundabout.

Quite exciting in Norfolk.

Just had a look at this as the X6 still has its original maps on it.
Online BMW site says £44 but there are multiple different options.
Does anybody know which one is the best for UK?

Updated the E89 one back in Feb but I did have to buy a 64gb USB pen drive to load it on the car (previous update done in 2018 only used 32gb pen drive)... must of built lots of new roads :?

I updated mine to the current 2020-2 maps and I'm definitely glad I did. Sometimes I have to rely on my google maps on my phone but not really that often at all anymore which is good because I can put my phone away and don't have to have it stuck to the screen all the time.
