Hi Guys,
I see that in the USA the Dice Ipod kit is popular...does anyone know if they are available in the UK ? Or is there a good alternative and are they easy to fit?

Thanks

Do a search for Intravee. Much better, especially if you have satnav.

I have the Dension gateway 300 and I love it, have a look at the link see what you think,

RustyZ4 , is it easy to install? I have no CD changer unit and no satnav. Does the wire go out of sight? Did you go for the cradle or not?

Thanks guys.

I've just removed a dension do dah from my Z4 if your interested. Dead easy to fit, just plugs into the existing CD changer loom.

I went for just the plug and not the cable to make it easier to hide the ipod out of site.

So with the plug thing where does the cable go? Sorry to be so dim about this LOL... I don't want a cradle...thought just the cable then tuck it away???

1. You can feed the cable through to the glove box and leave your iPod or USB in there (out of sight).

2. Beware if you have DSP - the unit will not work!!

3. For the above reason I have a brand new Gateway 300 for sale - it works fine, but the Dension website failed to mention their kit doesn't work with Z4s fitted with the infamous DSP. Let me know if you're interested, but persue marriedblonde's offer first as he mentioned his before I did. :)

I have posted loads of info about the Dension 300 and some on the others when I was looking to buy one a while back so search the forum if you need more help.

I contacted ipodcarkit direct to ask which one will work, they claim that only the Dice will work :dizzy:
How do I find out if it has DSP... see told you I was a bit dim about these things...

Depends on whether you have a pre- or post-facelift Z4. The old is digital, the new is analog which I believe may be ok. The DSP is an amp in the boot - search for my previous posts on DSP, Dension and iPod for more info.

P.S. If you don't have DSP then I'd go for the Dension over the Dice because it supports USB and doesn't need fitting in the boot. The Dension is relatively easy to install.

Well, it seems everyone answered your questions, their quick this lot,, its dead easy to fit, if you have no CD changer or sat nav I doubt you have the DSP, there for very straight forward, underneath the stereo above the switches, is a removable panel (the one sloping underneath) which gives you access to the back of the stereo you plug in where the changer would have gone. I have mine in the glove box along with the USB cable, and uploaded the software that displays tracks etc on the head unit.

Thanks guys your all very helpful! The Denison sounds great... just what I'm looking for the only reservation I have is that ipod car kit direct said only the Dice silverline would work... are they just trying to sell me something I don't need? Just don't wnat to make a mistake, my Z4 is on a 54 plate pre face lift...I'd rather trust what you guys say than some sales guy LOL.

Like I said, mine worked fine except that the Dension is not compatible with the digital DSP. You should really check if you have it. One other way to tell is if you have the audio settings Church, Jazz, Orchestra (when you press the music note button and cycle through)

Check out the compatibility list which lists the Z4:

My new and unused Dension Gateway 300 kit with full additional intructions is for sale if you're interested. I found out the hard way that it doesn't work with DSP :( - do yourself a favour and make sure you don't have DSP before buying.

Great thanks, I'll go take a look, but in the instruction manual for the radio it does mention DSP sound system...so its looking likely that it has DSP but I'm about to go out in it so I'll take a look. Thanks for your help, its much appreciated... if by any chance it doesn't have it I'd be interested in your Denison.
If it does have DSP then am I right in thinking that it will have to be the Dice silverline

I believe so, but I haven't tried it.

I didn't fancy the messier Dice installation so opted for the aux instead. Cheap and convenient enough for a second choice option.

Ok guys I know I'm a pain but when I press the music not key I get, bass, treble, balance etc but no sign of Church, orchestra etc.... is that a good sign LOL ?

I'll get there in the end LOL.

Thanks

Guys thanks for all your ehlp I now have an ipod kit and its installed and working... many thanks for your help and advice.

Any reason for going for the DICE / Denison / Intravee rather than retrofitting the BMW iPod connector? Looks friggin expensive at around USD300 in Norway, but I take it this is the best option?

I've got a 06 model business CD with the premium speaker system, no satnav or DSP.

Thanks!
