iPhone software update - version 5.0.1

Ive not notived any performance issues when ever using any jailbreak (ive been using them for 2 years now)

I use it for modifications such as a timestamp on each text, remove the little battery icon in the top right (i just need a %)

apps like iBlacklist can block calls and texts from specific or unknown numbers (like a crazy ex) custom ringtones and text tones, custom themes, change you browser useragent (so safari doesnt give you annoying mobile sites that lack content, you see it as you would on a PC), password protect your pictures and any other app, take a picture if someone tries to unlock your phone with the wrong passcode, the list goes on endlessly!

you can also get paid apps for free (which is illegal obviously) but it is possible and can be used to "try before you buy"
 
Yes, I've no negatives on JB either.

But getting my phone carrier unlocked was the biggest benefit...when I travel I can purchase a Sim from a carrier in the foreign country....I just did that in Africa and had cheap data while I was there. Over here I'll get a US Sim for when I cross the border...roaming data can be very expensive so having the unlocked phone is a treat.
