iPhone software update - version 5.0.1

Anyone here upgraded their iPhone to version 5.0.1?

What does the upgrade do, and is it worth bothering? :)
 
Some functions only work with V5, like the messages scrolling over the locked screen, the pull down main screen etc.

Very much worth doing.
 
Ok - sounds good guys. Will have a go tonight. Time to crank the rural 0.5mbps broadband into action... This may take a while :headbang:
 
Did you activate iCloud? Think that might have been a V5 option as well, but I can't remember ...
 
Are u upgrading from iOS 4 or from iOS 5.0??

If u have ios4 it's a big upgrade - if you're already on 5 it's a mine update that u can do over the air anyway :thumbsup:
 
I think mine was on 4.3.3 or something like that?

I only update every now and then. Didnt really notice the V4 upgrades, but V5 sounds good :thumbsup:
 
From OS 5, u no longer need a PC & can upgrade over a wifi connection
 
The alert features have also been totally overhauled and whereas it was a nightmare to get new alert tones, finally managed to easily get the 'Jack Bower 24' office phone ring' as my text alert...
 
Install has been done. All ok so far. Don't plan on using the Cloud, and opted not to, can I change this later if I want?

EDIT - how are the reminders different to your normal calendar? :?
 
iCloud can be done anytime from preferences on the phone, you can chose what to synch.
 
Careful using Icloud to synch Outlook Calendar...It ended up creating an Icloud Calendar on my Laptop so I had the original Outlook Calendar as well as the Icloud Calendar both appearing in Outlook...it was a nightmare and it took me ages to remove the Icloud calendar and get back to normal. I like the Wifi Synch as each time I plug in the phone it automatically synchs with my laptop...no more USB. I have no use for Icloud other than the Find My Phone App which could prove useful if I lose my Iphone.
 
You can jailbreak untethered on 5.0.1 (if your on a 3gs or a 4) unfortunately no jailbreak for the 4s yet.

Yes...I Jail Broke my 3GS a couple of weeks back. The only issue with the untethered JB for IOS 5.0.1 is Ibooks is crashing when it's opened...solution...use another reader App. I switched over to the Kobo App as I have a Kobo reader as well.
 
Never considered jail breaking before. Although I hear it opens up the phone to a whole new world of possibilities?

Does it not slow down the operating system? Are there any drawbacks?
