Somebody did it last year in Italy: http://www.bmwpassion.com/forum/showthread.php?251499-Istallato-iPadmini-su-z4&highlight=iPad

Sorry but everything is in Italian...

Hi

Just had a look at this but not pics and Google translate didn't like it

your's is better, as the steering wheel is in the right place

It looks s**t with carbon effect wrap on the trim.
If your any good at spraying just use some primer filler to get an uber smooth surface then spray it black...you could even do all the trim in like a metallic black like bmw car paint

Gloss piano black will look good

By the way, it isn't my car, I still prefer the old and poor OEM unit :P

One question I have is... how are you going to deal with glare?
the OEM satnav unit is great because it allows for different tilt angles.

With the OEM stereo, I find it hard to read the standard LED screen in bright daylight as it is... the highly reflective screen of an ipad is surely going to be a right arse sometimes?

That is a great question! I was just discussing options for this earlier today RE some form of shroud that cover from the middle around the top, I was toying with a 3.5mm edge but we have to wait and see how this will work.

the cover is definitely good so you don't have to remove the ipad you could just pop the cover over it and not risk your car being broken into for it.

Here's a problem I've encountered, I left my IPad mini in the dash mount yesterday and when I got in the car it was displaying "IPad needs to cool down before you can use It"

I had to take it out and put it in a cold room to get it to cool down enough to let me use it again. (It was too hot to carry it!)

Just thinking if your planning on leaving it in the dash, it might not like it in the summer!

That's just 2 much carbon for anyone !
And its just pony cheap wrap, and WTF is that moody ///M badge stuck on it too :sos:

Who the hell are you to criticise what he does to his car?? If he wants to use "pony cheap wrap" that's entirely his choice.

All you do is stick pre-formed bits of carbon to your car, or buy over priced bits of tat. I've never seen any thread of yours that isn't full of stupid ideas that you never follow through on, you've never taken on a project like this by yourself.

Once you do things like this for yourself, your opinion will be of value.

You should respect this guys balls and talent, not try to bring him down with your stupidity

And you think people would be stupid enough to leave an Ipad on show in a car unattended....

Apple to release software update that stops users from operating their iPads whilst in motion....

:!: lol
So what about using it on a train or a passenger in a car???? :?

This was a joke, well at least I hope it was???? I cant see apple doing this, throwing it about when gaming would disable it if that's the case. The only thing I guess they could do it to place a GPS restriction code but that would render a lot of software developer Apps dead. I almost sure this is a wind-up :o

Regarding visibility, you could just angle it.

I feel that although the panel with the ipad is nearly perfect, contrasting the insert would not only break up the dash piece but allow for the unit to sit at an angle which may resolve the readability issue.

I would try to fashion some sort of flush fit mount, then when turning on the ignition, raises the top to make the ipad sit vertical, all without allowing the rear gubbins to be seen.

Big money for that kind of fabrication and R&D though, and I ain't loaded so I'll stick to OEM nav.

still not convinced by the lack of center vents. i use mine an awful lot.

nothing wrong with some dynoc wrap if done right, much easier to do if you dont fancy trying carbon fibre skinning.

is that a mini or a full on ipad?
