Well been to the shop this morning, coffee and thinking cap both present. We toyed with lots of options such as I-pad and I-phone holder, even measured up a 5" reverse camera with twin input for front and rear camera and then both agreed, I-Pad smack centre and loose the centre vents would look spot on. Simple and flush!

So for now the games begin and pics to follow. Clean dash with only a mini I-ipad flush fitted............

Now I know many will say the vents are a must for the cold nights, but this will be rev 1... if it works and look good and is functional. rev 2/3 etc. may follow!

Any update on the progress of this? I'm toying with the idea myself

 in a word some! The panel created for the mini was sufficient however the magnets were not  Spent a lot of time on getting this correct or a speed bump later would result in a cracked mini :!:

Some pics and update will be done soon, what I can tell you is the magnets from ipad 3 cover don't hold it in place at the vertical panel angle.

People have said get the soundman dock, which I would but at €300 plus import tax!!! I think not .

The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver. The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory. Wifi only iPad mini should not be used for nav.

Does that bit device just replace the radio totally?

The iPad looks too clunky mounted off to the side there.

The bit device is a signal cleaner, it would take a sound signal from a cheap MP3 player and make it sound pure, clean and improved.

100% correct  the other thing to consider depending on what I-products you have, I.e iPhone 5s, you can mirror the screen to iPad mini without GPS for nav etc :D

R3AP4R, hope you don't mind but I sent you a PM asking a few questions about the IPad options. You seem to know your apples!

Cheers

But having a cleaner source means less modification to the signal reducing the chances of clipping (as well as inherently yielding better sound quality)

Ah well, maybe PM's are not a newbie privilege!

Basically I have used my iphone5 for navigation and it's worked well, so I planned to use my IPad mini in the z4

Ass it's wifi only, I was going to use my iphone as a hotspot for its signal. It's just occurred to me that the IPad not being 3G means it probably won't know where it is like the iphone does when navigating.

Is that all correct? If so what are my options?

Cheers for any light you can shed on it!

I see! Well you can mirror i-phone to ipad, however its worth noting that is may only show/duplicate the same screen size which could look odd  The way to get around this as you have said is to use your phone as a hot spot (Wi-Fi) which should get you some form of GPS from Wi-fi although it will not be as quick or reliable as your iphone with built in GPS.

You could try a nav app which includes data such as maps without the need for a constant connection? Give it a go whilst hot-spotted and see if it works?

I'm hoping to have it connected up this week sometime so I'll give it a whirl. If not it will just have to be used for streaming music, fb and so the mrs can watch Corrie on BBC Iplayer on long journeys!

benross, tethering an iPad to an iPhone does share the gps data.

I didn't think it did, it should though! As it would make my life a lot easier!

Like I said, it's not the end of the world, as I'll still have the other features. Might try this Mirroring malarky and see what happens.

And the added benefit of running a speed camera app means you'll also benefit from community submitted locations for cameras (such as trapstar)

Just ensure you have plenty of data!
