R3AP4R, you should consider getting your steering wheel retrimmed... makes such a huge difference.
When I went from my 2.0 SE to my 3.0 si sport, I loved the extra thickness of the m sport wheel.
Just make sure you specify you want extra thick padding to get it to a good thickness if you get it retrimmed.

Interesting project! 
So after many weeks more than expected, the install is almost complete. The Zed is not my daily driver and is more of a toy, but I am very happy with the results!
At the time of the install, I also upgraded speakers to include Audison components, Hertz Amplifier and a JL 6” Sub. The system is not loud but it’s nice and crystal. Anyone that’s done an install will appreciate that when installing in a convertible, double whatever it is that you want to install to get the same results! The rear compartments behind the seats are now home to the Sub and the amplifier which have been treated to some Alcantara Trim alongside the dash panels for the I-Pad Mini and Light Switch unit. The system all works from an Alpine Mech Unit which is hidden within the rear storage unit.
I was hoping that this would be a template for future easy install of an I-pad mini, but it has to be said, it’s not likely! The dash trim panel that the I-pad sits in was a bitch to cut and keep clean. Ideally you would craft a one piece design which may well be what happens during the winter months.
The approach above would ensure smooth lines which if I am honest is my only personal criticism of the work that has been done. That being said, everyone that’s seen it so far has liked it!
The Zed was also treated to a LeatherZ armrest, Machine Monkey Bottle Holder x 2 and also a Machine Monkey Handbrake (Oi I need my knob!).
I have also recently purchased an OB2 plug in, so I can monitor the Zed upfront and on the screen. I have used the Zed a few times with the system and it works great as navigation or as music server.
When I finally get around to meeting Mr Monkey! I will ask very nicely for him to make a nice steel frame that sits between the existing joins to see if it can be used as a sun visor!
Revision 2 will be on the cards in the coming months, alongside, my new roof, new leather interior, plasti dip exterior! I love the Zed but it certainly hurts the wallet!

It looks better than i thought it would but it would be nice to integrate it in a more 'BMW' way imo. Shame about the edges on the trimming too but it's nothing a bit of time and finessing won't sort.
If you're doing a revision to it I'd be inclined to use the division of the factory vents and stereo as the basis for the ipad holder. It looks like it would need to be taller to accomodate the ipad but it would break up the plain surface and look more oem. Of course, it's easier photoshopped than done but i'm sure a decent modeller could knock that up in a day or two.

Could even put some other functional buttons into it too if you're feeling fancy 8)

Hi, totally agree! The most difficult bit in honesty with the angels is finding a way to for the Ipad flush. There was several moulds complied with magnets but because of the angle it was impossible to get it snug and safe. The next issue with my build is that because of the above, it becomes two piece and not one, like your proposed images.
The next revision will deffo be more OEM looking
even if i have to pay a fortune for another build.
