I was using my iPhone the other day, in fact I am right now. And it still feels the same, and does a great job doing exactly what the ipad can, plus more.

PS does the ipad have wings ?

Sorry it's my fault for digging it up too much. I just can't resist it.

Perhaps I should just go out and buy one and become a convert.

Hey - each to their own, your opinion is as valid as the next guys!

Me - I don't really have an opinion. Technology has left me far behind

I have a mobile phone. It has a camera - I don't use it. It plays music - I don't use it. It can video stuff - I don't use it. It does all the usual MMS stuff - I don't use it. It can do SMS - I occasionally use that. It can make phone calls - I do use that.

I think you can see a trend in my behaviour. :D

That said - I do like my iPod Touch, because I can play Angry Birds on it :P , I can watch films on the cheap crappy flights my company put me on, and I can listen to music.

To me the power of the iPhone is in the apps. Without them it is just a glossy phone - with features I probably wouldn't use.

The iPad - well I tried one out at the gadget show. Suzi Perry was more interesting :titshake:

Now have 2 in our household  Goes with the 2 iphone 3Gs and the iMac, I use a laptop for work and the iPad for fannying about, but it is so easy and great to use, leaves the lappy far behind on that front. :D

Warning for those with an iPad and iPhone.

If you have updated your iPhone to the iOS4 updated software and you have apps on your iPhone you transferred onto your iPad, be wary of updates! Make sure when you go to install the update on the iPad that they have not been optimised for the new iOS4 software on the iPhone! They may not work or update on the iPad if they are! Had an app update last night that is also on my iPhone and it said when using on the iPad, do not install the update as it's optimised for the iOS4 operating system! Trouble is the update just stays in your update folder!! :?

Can't justify the expense when the iPhone does all that the iPad offers.... (in regards to things I'd actually use).

If it was cheaper than a netbook, then yeah it'd be worth a punt.

There's an Asus one due out very shortly, half the price, has a webcam and supports flash. Now that's more like it, and 100% more likely to open my wallet than any apple product.
Oh, and it does multitasking too.

I've got my iPad now and it's been great so far, the battery claims are spot on, ive had 10 hours web browsing over 3 days before having to charge, and thats with it on sleep not ever turned off. Not had a chance to test the 3G on it yet as I'm planning / building a special mount for the car to use as sat nav and stereo replacement. My laptop has only been on to use proper programs like corral draw, all my web browsing is on the iPad, it feel much easier and more comfortable. Its a luxury but what it does it does well, video & you tube have never looked better. Was watching tv in bed via tvcatchup website and it's like having a 60" tv as you hold it about a foot away from your face. To be honest the touch screen devices work better with larger screens - I'd be happy with a dumb phone and an iPad. The lack of flash doesn't bother me as I don't browse any flash sites. All in all I'm happy, ive read that bench mark tests on the iphone 4 and ipad show that the ipad seems to have a quicker processor speed and is snappier than the iphone 4, whereas the phone has more ram. I didn't think id do any gaming on the iPad but the screen is great for strategy games, and as more apps come along I'm sure I'll find more uses for it.

Wow, there seems to be a lot of iPad hate in here.
Personaly I think they're great. I got an iPhone a few months ago and bought an iPad last week. I do use the iPhone less now, but still wouldn't be without one.
The iPad I like becuase I hate being at my PC in the evenings, I sit at a computer all day so the last thing I want to do is sit at one in my time off. But I do want to be able to browse the net, etc. and the iPad is great for that.
Laptops are more cumbersome and have terrible battery life compared the iPad. The iPad will last all day and you're doing whatever you wanted to do on it within a couple seconds of picking it up.
I know it's no the best value, but it just does what it is supposed to so very well.

I'm now plotting a way to afford an iMac....

Apple stuff isn't cheap but it's much less hassle than the other equivelants, which is something I value after dealing with the hassle of pc's and games consoles all day.

Plus apples stuff retains value, so to me that justifies a higher initial cost. No body seems to put a value on design and material feel, the cheap tablets will be horrible bendy plastic that wont wear well, the ipads aluminium unibody has a quality feel like all of apples recent products, I'm must be getting old as I was part of the hate apple contingent but since I bought an iMac 4 years ago I got what people love about apple, its a quality product, yes you can buy something similar that does the same job for much less, but then you can buy a ford rather than a BMW, but the bmw will be of better quality but you have to pay more for it - gadgets are no longer black boring boxes, they are stylish and dare I say fashion / lifestyle accessory.

All great !

But how do you hold it and use it at the same time ? I'm asking this mainly in the context of the Ipad being used as a replacement for a laptop.

Whoever it was who mentioned Ipad hate, I don't think it's hate really, it's just questions from the people who just don't get it.

And here is an observation of mine, again not hate.

I recently took an extended trip involving several flights. Plenty of bored airport time save for checking the web on my Iphone, which still does the job for me. In all that empty time in airports of several countries I did not see ONE Ipad being used by an actual Ipad owner. Not one, not anywhere. How is this a revolution ? Plenty of laptops and notebooks though.

I did however sit opposite Curries digital for sevaral hours waiting for one delayed flight. In that time I must have seen at least 10 people mooch along to the Ipad stand, And each one did exactly the same thing,...they proded and poked for a couple of minutes,..then having given up on the front for some strange reason they it over and looked at the back to see if there was anything of interest there (presumably having found nothing on the front) But no,..nothing to see on the back...so they then they put if back on the hype-stand and wandered off unmoved.

You can call it hate,..I call it observation. It's not a revolutuion. It's a nice new toy for folks who like Apple stuff.

:poke: :poke: :poke:

From what I can gather iPad isn't a replacement for laptop - more of an entertainment gadget. Seems very expensive for what it does, especially when you can get iPhone (which actually allows you to make phone calls!) fo much cheaper.

Come to think of it, as an entertainment gadget my 4 years old PSP lets me play games (much better then ones on apps store!), watch movies/see pics (by saving on memory stick), internet browsing (ok, need to be at home), all at a fraction of iPad price......
