Intravee update Version 6.02-6993

When I got my intravee, I connected it all up and it worked, I set the nav to Mk4 onwards and thats it.

I seem to hear that I probably should have reset the thing???
You don;t need to reset it, but you may want to configure it for your car.

How and with what software do you do this and all the other amendments?
99% of options can be set via the UI on the monitor, but you may want to update the Intravee firmware to the latest version. See the Intravee forum over on BMW5.co.uk.

Also there are blank options on screen when if selected go into menus.
That should not be the case, could you give an example. The Nav should not allow you to select an empty menu item.

Teraterm is not bundled with the downloader. Teraterm is a simple terminal emulator that can be used to communicate with the Intravee, but you should never need it.

so I tried all the steps, and all I get is this
"not in application or bootloader? Check Cable?

I checked the cable and I did try to connect an Aten usb to RS232 directly but both aten and intravee have screw heads...
Cable used is a Startech, and laptop is a Win8 Enterprise 64

Never been able to get my Startech working with XP...........I also get the "not in application or bootloader? Check Cable?
Tried numerous drivers to no avail.....gonna look for a different cable.

Well i ordered this cable that RichardP suggested elesewhere http://www.tronisoft.com/prod.php?id=2446 and still no joy.
It came with no drivers so downloaded these http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
Still getting the "not in application or bootloader? Check Cable?

Can only think the fault lies with my Laptop/OS or the Serial Port on the Intravee.

And the Intravee is connected to the car with the ignition in the accessory position?

Yes......Intravee works perfectly. Never updated since I installed it though.

Try this :

With the USB adapter disconnected from the Intravee, but connected to your PC, with the downloader running, short pins 2 and 3 of the serial port D connector with a small screwdriver. Pin 1 is top left with the long row of pins at the top. Do not connect to the outer case. With those pins connected, you should get all characters you type echoed back to the downloader window.

If you get characters echoed back when you try the above then the USB/Serial adapter is working, if you don't then it's not.

Many thanks for taking the time to help Richard......will give it a go tomorrow.

Just to be absolutly clear, when updating the Intravee firmware, the Intravee must be connected to the car and must be 'awake'. The easiest way to ensure this is to have the ignition in the accessory position.

You should also have the radio selected as the source, if you don't the radio will think the CD Changer has been unplugged and switch to radio, but when the Intravee powers up it will still think it is the selected source and overwrite the display. Not the end of the world as just changing the source will fix the problem.

Now I never had the radio as source.....something else to try. Thanks again Richard, will try again tomorrow.

Ignition in the Accessory with radio as source.......no joy.

Shorted pins 2 & 3 and characters echoed back as you suggested......still no joy. :(

If you get nothing with pins 2 and 3 shorted then the serial port is not working, or the wrong serial port is selected.

Are you still using Windows XP? Could you post a couple of screen shots of Device Manager with the 'ports' option expanded, then the properties of the USB COM port. You can e-mail them to [email protected] if it's easier.

This shows the cable as Comm port 19 which is what I have the Downloader set as.

Any other ideas Richard?

Thanks Again.....Jim

OK, so the downloader and com port are working and configured correctly.

If the Intravee is also working when connected to the car normally then I think the only possibility is that the serial port on the Intravee is not working, or not working correctly.

One possibility is that the baud rate in the Intravee is set to something other then 115,200, I've seen that once before.

If you connect up the Intravee to the serial port, with it playing as the selected audio source, if you type into the downloader do you see any output at all? If it were working correctly you would see what you typed echoed back as if pins 2 and 3 were connected. If it's set to the wrong speed then you should see gibberish echoed back.

I'll take a look at mine this weekend for you and snapshot the settings. It's likely to be the settings or handshaking between the devices. IIRC I had trouble with the baud rate etc at first. I did see gibberish though which you don't appear to be seeing.

Hi Thanks again.......think you're onto something as I get gibberish back.
What should the baud rate be set at?

Hi Stuart......yes think we're onto something as I get the gibberish. Just waiting for Richard to reply. Cheers.

OK, when opening the COM port in the downloader, change the speed from 115,200 to 38,400, that's the default if the baud code in EEPROM is incorrect.
