Intravee Install

Well, with a misguided feel of confidence having read various threads on here, as well as having installed one in my old mini, I decided last night was the night to whip out the cd changer and install the intravee in a new cubby box I bought from my local dealer.

I wont be trying it again in a hurry. The guides on here are somewhat different to some of the problems I encountered, albeit I have a coupe not a roadster. I particularly struggled with the cd changer cables being so short. Glad to say its almost working (I think the firmware or UI settings need adjusting, but sound is coming through!

The car is back together again and I only bust one screw and its housing which I now need to try and order.

My advice... Dont try this unless you have a lot of patience, but it feels good when you have done it.

Cupholders... 5 mins each side. If only everything was that easy.

It would be very simple if it weren't for the short cables. Turns a potential 20min job into an hour plus (depends how lucky you are and how small your hands are).

I very nearly gave up, and thought about getting some forceps or something from SWMBO's surgery. Fortunately, pvr managed to get one cable in, I got the other.

It took me 5 hours!

It was a bit trial and error!

Does anyone know the part number for the screw and plastic shroud it does into that attaches the trim above the box? i.e. the bit that has the catch to release the storage compartment? The screw that you have to unscrew with the screwdriver pointing towards the roof. The plastic shroud it the inportant bit. I seemed to have misplaced it along the way and the screwhead was threaded before I started.

Makes me glad i didnt have a CD changer, a non m (so the battery isnt in the way) and a roaster.

My intravee took a whole 5 mins to install; from the boot.... lifted up the carpet, untaped the CD changer wire.. secured the intravee and kca-420 with double sided tape, drilled a hole in my lower cubby box to run the my ipod lead through.. job done!

is the coupe pre wired for the cd changer?

I think all UK cars come prewired. It should be taped at the bottom.

Cables are a doddle to find, just about 10cms too short to install the box easily.

mjh, do you mean in part 14 here? : http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E85/Roadster/Europe/Z4_M3.2-S54/RHD/N/2006/march/browse/vehicle_trim/centre_console_rear_cabin/

I don't know if it's different for couple owners but my Intravee install in an 03 roadster took about 25 mins. :D

Following some advice I saw in a previous thread, I lowered the rear bulk head carpet and had instant access to the rear of the CD changer. I mounted the KCA-420i behind the large metal bracket on the left hand side and the Intravee on the rear bulk head just above the opening to the CD changer. Finally, I poked the iPod cable into the cabin through the gap between the Sat Nav drive and the CD changer and that was it, job done. Not sure why folk actually need to remove the changer? Am I missing something? :?
