Hi all,

Anyone UK based have an Interlagos Blue, passenger side headlight washer cap for E85 Z4(M)?

Mine has gone along with half the washer jet and trying to avoid having to get a bodyshop to paint such a small piece.

Part number (unpainted though) for reference is 51117078262.

Cheers

Pretty common mine did the same, the brackets get weak over time.

Bought a colour coded one off eBay

Bit more expensive not I paid £40 but its cheaper than buying from BMW and then getting it painted.

Ahh nice, was the paint match and finish all good?

Annoyingly the end section of the washer jet itself has gone on mine, so need to replace that bit as well

You might need to get a new washer jet too, tbh they are a pain a lot of people just pull the fuse so they stop working. Inevitably they will break again. Quite fiddly to fit but I would think you will need to take the bumper off to replace the jet.

It was a BMW original part and the match isnt perfect but its not too bad, light not doing it justice but in person you would never know.

Well as long as it's close enough in person.... Annoyingly the car was going up for sale soon as well so worst timing for this kind of thing to need messing around with. I'll have to try find somewhere to fit it for me, i'd have no idea where to begin trying to take bumper off etc

I had the passenger side one disappear last year around the time that washer jet started leaking and then I lost my drivers side one this summer a week after the drivers side jet started leaking, annoyingly it is a bumper off job, as said above get it off eBay around £50 painted and new jet I found cheapest from the main dealer at around £90 currently

Was it easy enough to get the bumper off? I'm just unsure how it would work with the driver side one still being there surely that will stop the bumper from being removed or am I missing something. I've never had to take a bumper off before so no idea what i'd be doing but garage just said £100 to remove, fit and replace

You have plugs in the front wheel arches, 7 bolts when you open the bonnet and 3 bolts for the undertray. After that you have to pull the top corner near the headlight on each side and hope you don’t break them as they are £35 each side to replace. All that’s left is to juggle the bumper in one hand while pulling off the washer jet pipes each side. Easy

I had that issue with my MC as one of the jets was leaking when I bought it.

I managed to get a used washer jet on here and Ross at RBM took the front of the wheelarch liner out to swap it rather than the whole bumper.

Unfortunately one of the clips on the washer cover was snapped so I bought a new one from Sopers. They offered to supply it painted for another £15 but I foolishly spent £13 on paint instead. :headbang:

Still it gave me something to do in lockdown!

Ever since I've had Fuse 40 removed so it won't happen again. :)

I hadn't really noticed the washer fluid going down, though I don't drive the car anywhere near as much as I should but I had a while back spotted fluid on the top of my undertray when looking down the engine bay and so maybe thats from the washer leaking slowly over time and then in the freezing temps recently when I last drove it back home it must have had some kind of pressure or something cause the whole thing to go.

Interesting he was able to do with with the liner, reckon that way is easier/quicker or just saves the risk of bumper brackets only?

I'll deffo be taking out that fuse, what a stupid system and frankly it doesn't clean the headlights well anyway!

It's not unusual to lose the cap, but a few people have lost the centre of the jet as well like you have.

I noticed one of the washers on mine was sitting up a bit and the low-level warning light was on when I collected it. I put a couple of litres in the reservoir and the next day it was spread across the drive!

Bearing in mind it was December I needed to sort the leak or I wouldn't have any fluid for the screen washers. :(

Ross worked at Sytner for 15 years before he set up on his own so I figured he'd know his way around my car. I can see liner removal having a few benefits. No risk of snapped bumper brackets, no risk of scratching a large painted panel and no need to faff about aligning it afterwards.

No need for working headlight washers for the MOT on cars registered before some date in 2009 - September IIRC.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Yeah I've seen RBM used a lot by people, unfortunately just so far away from me being up in Sheffield.. Will ask the garage I can go to and see if they can go through the archliner. They're a BMW specialist so hopefully should be able to rather than doing bumper but they only priced to do bumper off job initially.

Just checked MOT rules, you're right. Pre 2009 cars aren't checked for working cleaning systems even if equipped. If they barely clean anyway, why have them on new cars. I had a 2018 Ford out washers, perfectly fine whilst driving in during dirty winter months. I now have a 2017 Audi A6 with washers and they do nothing other than get fluid all over the car.

Just annoyed this has happened tbh... I'm ready to move the car on so last thing I wanted was to be spending more money on it now at xmas

l wouldn't worry its not difficult to do putting it back on and lining it up perfectly can be a bit time consuming but any good indie should be able to sort for you.

That doesn't need to be a bumper off job. Quite simple to just push the new one inside, just need to make sure you have the whole cover including the internal mechanism.
