Insurance: what increase in premium for you?

Hmm, Just paid £298 (yep under three hundred!) with Aviva for our Z4M R with guaranteed NCB.

They only went back 4 years for claims which dropped two claims off for the pair of us. Mandatory £500 excess and tracker not required!

Direct line wanted £629 to renew (600 excess) with tracker mandatory.

Not too bad I thought!

£298!?!?!

I'd been with Direct Line for 10 years up on till my new renewel due to them requiring a Tracker fitted to insure. I'm sure I read on here the fact that RBS own Direct Line and Tracker!!!
They were the only insurer that I checked for quotes that required a tracker to be fitted too! When I cancelled my policy, the girl on the phone said they were very aware of this issue on certain cars like ours.

I'm 32, 6 years no claims, insured now with Admiral - £673 with £300 excess

chrissrush,

thats very cheap, i am assuming you must have a very good post code, your a good age and you have lots of no claims discount

Or the quote doesn't protect your NCB? - I say this as I have had quotes that are over half what they should be as they have not included NCB protection

I just got a very competitive quote via Chris Knott. Figured it was worth a phone call when I was waiting for Mrs a11y when out shopping yesterday...

More mod-friendly compared to my current insurer nd impressed me with actually knowing about certain modifications (as soon as I said "Eibachs" the response was "ah yes, decent quality springs!"). I'm pretty sure that's who I'll go with but I'll have more time next week or after to spend more time sorting it out.

My renewal price and this quote are approx 24% increase on my previous 12-month policy, but that seems par for the course :(

You told them you do 1 mile per year and live in a fortress.

No, I told them up to 12,000, parked on driveway SDP & commuting. Guaranteed bonus not just protected!

I had three claims I didn't need to rell them about as they only went back 4 years not 5! also have an SP30 (3yrs old).

Also didn't take foreign cover, breakdown etc. as either not needed or I have it already.

I admit it's a lot less than i thought it would be! In fact it's less than the 350z we had last year.

:D

Just renewed with More Than and price was down £79 from last year.
Myself and wife,protected ncb,car garaged,6k miles a year cost £371.
I thought that was a very good price :D

I just renewed mine a few days ago and I was dreading it. There was all this talk about everyone's insurance going up, and everyone I have spoken to has gone up by at least 30%. So here's me thinking i'm going to be about 2k out of pocket. But I got my renewal through and was shocked, it hasn't gone up at all! :D

mine as gone from £540 to £670

just in the process of shopping around, so far sticking with my current insurer looks best bet

i have tried gocompare, confused and elephant - open to suggestions

Have you tried adding girlfriends etc to the car or even a parent?

FFS - Aviva quoted me £2650, i have been driving over 20 years, max no claim and only ever had 3 points for speeding (almost 5 years ago)

I'm with churchill, (3rd year now) it went up about £15 , but oddly enough the renewal was cheaper than applying as a new customer, i now pay £310 :driving:

I would be interested to hear stories from people actually having had accidents and insurance company disputing OEM items that are on the car. For example, someone ran into my 316i compact years back and I was with the AA at the time, the car was second hand and i had put on it colour coded M sport bumpers/skirts with OEM bmw rear spoiler and different sports OEM mirrors (not M) along with OEM Spoke 71 alloys, none of which were on the original build for the car in 1995! Someone came out to look at it to determine if it was a write off or not and nothing was ever said about these items at all. The spoiler was replaced along with the bumper and the boot and that was the end of that.

I tend to think that these insurance companies are playing scare tactics how would one call up an original build sheet for a 1995 car to check what items were put on it at the factory? I agree that aftermarket items like alloys, brakes, superchargers, and even poorly fitting aftermarket bumpers / spoilers all increase the risk of an accident but OEM items that were meant to go on the car should not affect the price otherwise when insuring a car they should make you list every single optional item on the build sheet to make it fair. :headbang:

My renewal nearly double this year, from 350 to 680 odd. No changes to car, me or my licence, so I went elsewhere :-) and paid £315 :-)

And further to this post I made previously, I've just changed my insurance to Chris Knott :)

My previous insurer (Adelaide via the IAM Surety scheme) were actually very good too - I can't fault them for customer service - but the excess was £400 vs £250 for Chris Knott. Although I have no intention of making use of that, it's always good to have it lower...
