Insurance Postcode Risk

Shortly to be moving house so wanted to check how this could affect car insurance and found this; http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-ratings.php

Luckily I'm going from a Grade B to Grade A, so should see a slight decrease in premiums. Worth noting though if you do plan on moving, otherwise could come as an expensive shock.

Interesting indeed.

I am in A, which is what I thought it would be anyway due to the premiums I pay compared to some of you guys.

Thats interesting... my work in an A, my parents a D* and my own house a C.

Insuring my car at my parents was cheaper, then my house, and my work address was about the same as my house.

Likewise - two and a half minutes up the road though and I'd have been in band A.

this just goes to show that although they use criteria such as this, it is still a con and they will screw you if they see a chance.

I am am F.

I think anybody who lives in a built up area is going to get screwed by insurance companies.

These ratings are joke. Another con how they assess for flood damage

There's a good sliding scale here as well:

Just annoys me that they do this, so you make sure you have a garage - then they charge more for a garage!

Last renewal, I asked the difference - £280 LESS for me to park on the drive than in the garage.

I asked why, they said:

"garage owners are more likely to make a claim for scratch damage, and a thief who brakes into a garage would have more time undisturbed in private to steal from the car".

OK, so what if I have a secure garage, also, if I scratched the car, I'm not going to make a claim and lose my NCB.

"In our opinion, no garage is secure, and if you scratch your car, you need to declare it to us as accident damage".

I was so cross by this point I had to say goodbye and go for the second cheapest quote I had - just couldn't talk to them about it any more without getting cross. At least Admiral will recognise my garage as a car port if I 'leave the door open all the time'.

No joke. :tumbleweed:

My car is insured, and lives, at my parents house. It's band A. Dunno what my flat in Edinburgh is

 I live in rural Gloucestershire and have a higher risk (apparently) than the centre of Gloucester

Yeah, i think they use this as a guidance.. and then look - oh they have a inner city address let f**k them :headbang:

My house has a garage, but its £100 more expensive to insure to park the car in the garage then on my drive. Heck even parked on the main road was cheaper then the garage... do they not know about my bloody cat problem :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I recently move from my parents house. Both my parents and my place are in B. Yet still the insurance went up £46, when asked why they just said thats its based on all kinds of criteria. ( ie BS we want your money )

C for me, not bad I guess...

Used to be A before you moved in? :poke:

So harsh, but fair.

Luckily I'm an A. This garage stuff is crazy though. My last insurance policy stipulated the car had to be locked in my garage between 10PM and 6AM if the car was at home or within a mile.

We're an A which is a good job as our sons insurance on a Citroen C1 was 2k. God knows what it would be if we were higher grade. :o
