I hate insurance companies with a passion, weasel words, ' oh hang on a minute we can beat that quote now you've decided not to renew" .
You're better off going with a new insurer each year imo, the one you're already with rarely give you a better deal the 2nd year.
^^ this. Exactly my experience. Each year there seems to be one insurer who stand up and want to be the cheapest no matter what, next year, they're off the radar using the exact same details. It's bizarre. Last year for me it was Admiral, this year they weren't even close to being competitive. This year it was esure, it's a screwed up industry. Say you're a Data Manager and you pay £XXX, say you're a Data Administrator and your quote goes down by a hundred quid, say you park your car in the garage and it goes up

And the whole NCB is a joke, it's just an illusional method of front loading premiums to then bring them artificially down to give the perception of progression.
Many others will have a similar tale. I had an impeccable driving record for 15 years, then one day in 2012 on a steep downhill bank some idiot in a Micra with paper thin wheels in heavy snow decided to suddenly brake with no reason, I was a good 8 car lengths behind him, I had to slam the brakes, skid, momentum in the snow + gravity... it was either trash into him or into a wall, I chose the wall, to avoid third party whiplash claims. That one incident, in 18 years, has wrecked my "NCB" and wrecks the artificial price drop I had beforehand. Have you had any claims in the last
5 years??? Well then sunshine, we don't give a furrrrrrrrk how good of a driver you were 15 years leading up to that point!
And then let's make this all a legal requirement, with slack regulations. GG
