Insurance hike ...

Saga quotation was arm and a leg price and I consider myself a good risk!

Thanks Ron, was thinking of trying SAGA next time around, might get a quote and see what they come back with. I'm with Adrian Flux for both cars and have found them pretty competitive.

I was with BMW insurance on the 140i and found them the best but then realised after I fitted an aftermarket lip spoiler I'd invalidated the insurance as they don't allow non approved BMW accessories.
Should have checked the small print

Hhhmm Just done a Saga quote and got £ 342.-- thats with no NCD protection :? and a £500 excess :?
£90 more than my Ageas renewal :?

Ok, got two cars out of the admiral policy to LV which saves £300. The Z is now £320 instead of £560, much better. Adding my son in LV to the ID.3 would add £300 though, so left that with Admiral. All very odd the calculations.

The cheapest quote for my first year with the Z4 was with Saga much to my annoyance as I'm not yet 50. But the renewal the following year was ridiculous, which seems to be their MO.

Snap - went up by about 60% on both our cars with Saga, they just rely on 70 years not checking to keep in business

Starting to get emails from comparison sites with my insurance being due at the end of September.

Currently with Carol Nash, fully comp from memory around £400 with a total excess of £150.

The cheapest so far is £540 and that is with a compulsory excess of £400

This is with a year older car, reduced mileage from 8,000 to 5,000and a small claim from 5 years ago no longer needing to be declared.

Even with the horror stories re price rises I wasn't expecting such a hike, if any.

Just had a renewal quote of £588 and that is with an excess increase to £700.

Stated in the email that they know the premium has risen but it is due to an increase in insurance costs.

Emailed them back kindly pointing out that the car is a year older, I have never had a claim that was my fault, no longer requires insurance for travel to work and have reduced my mileage to 5,000. I asked them a simple question, why has the cost of insuring me and the excess gone up?

Need less to say, no response as yet.

My renewal with Adrian Flux went up by £80 in July, their renewal letter cited the rise in premiums was due to increased accident repair costs, higher labour rates and increased parts costs inevitably increasing the payouts and hence costs being passed onto you and me. Whats *i$$ing me off are the daily uploads on Facebook, Instagram and TickTok of M140is being crashed or written off :x

Why add the load to the non claiming group, why not just load it to the claim group instead as they are the ones that actually have generated the increased costs.

Perhaps car repairers have joined the train drivers and other strikers millionaires groups :x

The higher premiums should be paid by those of a higher risk.

Eventually got sorted by going back to a previous insurer, Police Mutual. £420 with a £350 excess and no additional cost for monthly payments which I thought was good.

Did have a interesting chat with him re insuring EV's which at the moment are no higher but he reckoned that those premiums will rise significantly due to the numbers of anticipated write offs for even fairly minor accidents due to the cost of replacing any damaged batteries.

It will be interesting to see if Welsh based Policyholders see reduced premiums now that everything has gone to 20 mph

Statistically for less accidents, therefore less. Claims ???

20 mph, it means that everyone takes longer to get to work and collect parts, couriers will charge more as they can handle fewer packages per day so the labour costs will increase, cyclicsts will be overtaking cars so there will be more accidents - so your car insurance will go up

I'm going through the yearly routine. Go a quote for the Z4M just under £300. Added Sophie for a laugh and it went to just over £5,000

Think the mods on the Zed make most companies decline to even quote. I've got 3 weeks to get quotes and wait to see what Admiral want for the renewal.

It is adding women to sportscars that raises the premium

As soon as I added my wife, the premiums for the Z, the X5M and the Porsche went through the roof.

I saw the premium graph with a correlation between renewal point and the amount of weeks before you start looking at getting quotes. According to that, it is cheapest at 6 - 8 weeks before renewal. The closer you get, the more expensive.

The other thing is the job title thing

Just out of curiosity before settling with my chosen insurer, I played around with my job title, employer, wife on wife off and employed part time or retired and none made any difference whatsoever.

Just had my renewal notice from Carole Nash. It's their six wheel policy so it covers the Zed and my Triumph motorbike.
Comprehensive cover.
£423.55

Do you want to borrow (or keep TBH) my wife? She is dirt cheap......in more ways than one. :D

Only conditions are that she refuses to drive an auto (no idea why TBH). And she refuses to entertain the idea of cruise control (again no idea TBH). And her choice of in-car music is somewhat questionable (mostly US-based MOR/soft rock shite. Bon Jovi etc).

Otherwise good to go!

You'll change your mind today, or tomorrow at the latest!

Oh dear, your poor wife, I hope she doesn’t read these posts
