Insurance for my daughter

With a bit of luck my 17 yr old daughter will pass her driving test next week :driving: , we were thinking of adding her onto Swmbo's A Class, the insurance company called back yesterday and said they wanted an extra £2280 to put her on the policy, has anyone had any luck with their children's insurance?

I know that there are numerous factors to take into consideration but some of you may know some specialist insurers, thanks

Its a shocker for sure . our teen did well with LV for his first couple of years but that was paying £1300/£1700

best of luck

There is a huge difference between companies on the addition of children, I would try a comparison site or two. Also don't forget that ladies now have to suffer the consequences of young mens dodgy driving history. Pass Plus is also useful and can be take quite quickly. It might also have been useful to put her on before the test, learners seem to attract less costs.

IIRC Admiral did the best quote for my son when he was 17.

Andi.

Thankyou I'll give them a whirl

I was expecting around £1500 tbh but at over £2K I don't know how they get started?

I bought a Polo for that purpose, the car was £4k and the insurance for my daughter was £1100 with Churchill.

I moved to Admiral multi car policy this year, and the Polo with my daughter as main driver and my son as second driver was £600 this year.

definitely do some comparison site quotes...
not just 1 comparison site...do 2 or 3 .... you'll get different figures from some of the same insurers...i did atleast!

A friend recommended autosaint.co.uk to me. I haven't tried them yet as my son's only just started learning but my mate says they've been good for him.
You have to have a tracker fitted though. Apparently it records where you've been, the speed you were travelling and rates of acceleration. They give you a password for you to access this info.

It was about £1300 to add my 17yr old daughter to the 206 insurance. That was direct line and the beauty of them is she builds her own NCB even as a named driver

My daughter was 18 when she passed her test i got her an 03 1.1 206 she paid £1400 for 10 months but then got a years NCB at the end of the 10 months a lot of companies do this now, second year was £550 for the year its sometimes cheaper for them to insure it in their name with mum and dad as named drivers

My daughter was 18 yrs paying £550 on her own policy first year, then £425 this year both with Diamond. Student, good postcode, 6k miles inc to-from part time clerical job, garaged Citroen C1 with both parents on the policy (no claims, low risk occupations). Worth a try.

@17 in a 1.0 Smart Fortwo was paying £2500 as a named driver.

Quinn direct were the cheapest for me and generally do favour young drivers.

Might want to look into getting a box fitted maybe? Generally girls don't hoon about as much so there's some saving to be had there. (for my zed policy I could save £300 by fitting a box...obviously not happening though :D)

Thanks once again everyone, there's a good " to do list " , let's hope that Wednesday is positive then we can get cracking

Oh just a tip, we found the daughter having her own policy with a low risk parent on the policy as a named driver was CHEAPER than adding the teen to the adult's policy (insurance companies aren't daft!) and she builds a NCB - hopefully :|

those prices are insane! UK is expense apparantly...

The UK is stupidly expensive. Wish we had a system like in Dubai where the insurance policy is insured to the car itself based on age (as apposed to a person on a car).

There their policies go down each year without fail due to depreciation on the vehicle. :o

This is all interesting reading for 6 months time. So basically we've been lulled into a false sense of security getting old enough to reduce premiums to a really low amount, and suddenly we will get stung :(

The other hidden gotcha, is that once they pass their test you have to tell the insurance company as they'll be driving solo and the buggers will often try and increase the premium again! (Direct Line didn't do this)

For £2000+ you might be better getting her her own car and policy in her own right, adding yourself and the mrs as named drivers should knock a hefty chunk off the premium :?

I found Elephant the cheapest (part of Admiral I think) at £1100 at 17 for our son which dropped to £950 at 19 with no bumps in his first couple of years. That was for a 8 year old A3. This year I renewed with Aviva for £750 for an A1 1.6 tdi sport.
